Last night as I was on the train, I did a remote start on my Ranger, and started it about 5 minutes before I got into the station.

As I got near my truck in the parking ramp, I smelled this hot rubber/tire smell, and I did a quick walk around my truck and didn't see/hear anything out of place. Once I got home I open the hood, and didn't smell anything. (Kinda wished I did open the hood while I was at the ramp.)

Then last night, it came to me after I went to bed, I remember smelling this once before a few weeks ago and we smelled the burning rubber/tire smell and we both though it was from another car around us when we were stopped at the lights, and never smelled it before/after that.

I did the remote start again today when I got done with work and didn't smell anything..

Anyone else had that issue?

How many miles are on the truck? When vehicles are new they will usually have a hot rubber like smell when things are still getting heat cycled before they stop smelling. If you do have plenty of miles on it say more than 4k id say it could be something rubber touching something it shouldn't be.

Check around down pipe and exhaust.
Plastic bags can sometime fly around and hook on the underside of vehicles. Something to check.
No smell now? Maybe it burned off but some might remain. Look for burn marks.

I think it may be from the heater. I read a post saying it was some sort of grease getting into the vents. Supposed to blow off after a certain amount of miles.

The smell was outside of the truck when I did the remote start the other night, and a few weeks ago, it was gone once we started moving.

I'll have to explore more later on when I am off on Monday, and look for the burn marks.

On my truck when new, I found many assembly items in the engine.
Main item was black masking tape. I think used to hold assembly wiring.
I would look close top and bottom for tape and wire ties.

I get this same smell at times. I usually smell it when the auto stop/start shuts the engine off and I have the heat on. Do these have some sort of supplemental heater on them to keep the heat going with the engine off? I never smell it when I'm moving. I'll probably have them check it out next service.

Mine throw low heat when it stops on Auto Start/Stop, and heats up super quick when it starts up again. I know there's an electric heat is used at the start of the truck to warm the air up quickly on a cold start.

Not gonna lie, I was really hoping this thread was all about smokey burn outs lol.

I warm my truck up twice a day and I've never had any odd smells. When I first got it I had the normal new car hot smells though, like hot exhaust etc.
