I had the idea that I would try to send a borescope through the throttle body into the intake in hopes of catching a view of the intake valves. The TB looks to be sitting to low for that to work or maybe it will and I am just not seeing it. Has anyone tried this or have an idea of how it can be done?

The intake doesn't look to be to complicated to take off but the borescope would be much easier.

I have 66k on my Ranger. Engine is running fine and the fuel mileage has been great. Just want to do this for the sake of curiosity.

I was thinking the same. I think it will entail pulling the TB off to access the intake manifold. I haven't explored that yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll be doing it.

How many miles?
On that day - 8,780 Miles, I was looking at the Valve Seats, did not do a detailed on each valve- just a curiosity inspection while I had the plugs out - Thanks to the Water in the Plug Wells thread I decided to do a preventive maintenance. No Water, No Corrosion - Plugs looked good and they now have anti seize on the threads.

I rented a borescope from auto zone and ran it through the TB. I could not snake it in to see the valves. Went through the sparkplug hole and couldn't get the scope to bend in the direction of the valves.

BUT.. My intake is coated in gunk. It was bad enough that the camera came back out the TB coated in it. The back side of the TB blade was pretty dirty to.

I have a few cans of Amsoil Power foam but I keep reading conflicting posts about using an induction cleaner on an ecoboost engine.

Taking the intake off would the right thing to do but I just don't have the time to do that right now.

I did my check via the Spark Plug port when I pulled the plugs for Anti-Seize add.

You've obviously got the hot set-up for inspection tools (user name checks-out ?). Does your scope swivel 90°?

I recently upgraded my scope from a Pawn Shop purchase years ago.

This was taken from a Depstepch Tripple Lens Scope Model # DS580TL has far better capabilities than the Pawn Shop scope did.

Damn! That's down-right affordable! When I was working in the field I used my shop's rigid borescope that had a small external mirror for 90º views, and their flexible fiber optic borescope. Both were around $600 - $700.

Hmm, I might go shopping...

Yes, this is one of those tools that gets used rarely but is nice to have if you need it, I mainly bought it for Boiler (Hydronic Heat) and Water Heater inspections.
