I installed Bilstein 5100 shocks on the rear of my new FX4 and put the 6112 kit on the front, set at the 1.6" ring. I still have about 3/4 inch of rake from front to back - I didn't want it it to be completely level and I liked how this looked on some other trucks on this forum.

I'm happy with how it came out, and it rides dramatically better than stock. The 1972 Cadillac ride is gone, and it is firm without being rough. I drove my previous 2020 4x4 for a few months with the 5100's on the back and stock in the front, and that made a big difference. This is a significant improvement over that. Glad I did it.

I have exactly the same setup, except that I set it to 0.80" and changed the tires to 265/70R17.

Nice guys! I have the 6112s and 5160s sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. I want to sit pretty much level, so you think 2" gets it done? How did you get it set, did you have a shop set the 6112 prior to install? Man, I've got to get mine installed ASAP haha.

I just used a pair of pliers to move the retention ring to the next cutout, then the next.

2 inches will still leave a little bit of forward rake. A little looks OK to me.

I had a local shop that I trust install them. I did the rears myself last time and that was easy. The front is work I could do but I didn’t want to burn a bunch of time figuring it out, and I’d still have to take it in for an alignment.

Thankfully I have a neighbor who is good at these installs, so I’ll enlist his help. I’d like to get nearly level if I can but also don’t want to use the max setting since I’m concerned it may affect the ride quality.

Looks great! I have the 5100’s on the rear, which is a big help, but it’s obvious that the stock fronts are also very soft. I’ve been contemplating putting the 5100’s on the front with the stock springs. Do you guys off-road your trucks? Just curious if the 6112‘s may be overkill for me. What made you guys pick the 6112’s for the fronts over the 5100’s. Thx

I have the same question. I was considering 5100 all the way around. I had to wait because my oldest son was laid off from his job...had to be sure he got back to work.
What does the 6112 do for the front?
Would you consider 6112 all the way around?

Thanks

I ordered 5100s as a kit for the front and the back many months ago.

Edit: I ordered on February 19, 2021.

I was sent the rears, but the fronts have been (and still are) on back order. I got tired of waiting, so I ordered and installed the 6112. I’m still waiting for the 5100 fronts. When they arrive, I’ll have them for sale.

The 6112 is a larger diameter shock than the 5100. Because of this; the stock coil spring will not fit around it. It is sold with replacement springs, but the upper stock components are reused. This means your stock strut assembly will need to be disassembled. This would also be true if you installed 5100s in the front, but not if you ordered something like the FPP Fox struts that are pre-assembled. 6112 shocks are not available for the rear.

Appreciate the help.
I wondered about the coil spring from the original front assembly. You helped a lot. Thanks.

I bought the 6112 kit for the same reason LoneRNGR did - I got tired of waiting for the 5100s that were out of stock. I'm glad I replaced the springs as well while it was all taken apart. The OEM springs should work fine with the smaller 5100 struts.

If I want to upgrade the back shocks at some point those are quick and easy to do myself. I don't plan to do much off roading - I just wanted to fix the ride and make it less boat-like.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try to hold out for the 5100’s, assuming they come back into stock soon.
