Bet it's a pain to read while your doing 70 mph on the x-way . :giggle:
Steve, You need to learn how to multi-task. Set the cruise control and have your passenger steer while you're reading. :captain: ?

Now isn't that what this forum is for? To ask the same questions 100x's over because most don't read it?:lipssealed:

To be honest I've never read any owners manual ever. I'll have the salesman show me the basics then I'll just play around with all the buttons when I get home. lol
So...I read THROUGH mine, but kept getting frustrated and sidetracked every time the manual said "if equipped". I know why they do it, but I don't have to like it.
And so I did what Dave did and went home to play with what I felt were the pertinent buttons.

So all this time you never seen this on your dash? Your were a cop too. Not very perceptive are you? ? ?

They all do this. lol On the Lariat you have to push the side button on the shifter for it to appear.

It was pretty interesting watching how short of a time it spends in any gear during normal surface street driving.

One of my favorite little "bar trivia" tidbits about our transmission.

It confounds me that some folks will buy a $40,000 machine with 14,000 parts and not read the manual that came with it to know how to operate it for the most enjoyment and safety.

You can download Owners Manuals here in .pdf form for free, for any Ford product going back to 1996. Much handier than running down to the garage in my jammies to look something up.

Meantime, here is the pertinent page:

Guys don't read manuals or directions.

You may need to be sent back for reprogramming.

Relying on the sales person is a good way to to get lots of misinformation. I won't let them waste my time but last year when my wife got a new Jeep she insisted on sitting through the sales person's review. I had to keep correcting her she kept describing how to use features that were not in my wife's Jeep.

I always scan every page of the owners manual on every new vehicle.

Looks like you need a better salesman.

I've never had an issue doing this. When I was back in MA I'd buy a new truck every 3 years from the same dealer and salesman at Lamoureux Ford in W Brookfield. They were very thorough going through everything. Even here when I bought my Ranger they had a designated person who would go over all the tech stuff and help you set up your phone and get your Ford app up and running.

The Ranger has more tech and features then anything I've ever owned so when I got home I just played around with the steering wheel buttons and main screen. If you're somewhat "tech savoy" it's pretty easy to figure things out.

Right. Manuals, instructions and directions are just someone else's opinion.
And I prefer to form my own opinions rather than borrow someone else's. :like:

When I was shopping for my truck, I was armed with almost everything there is to know about the Ranger (except for it displaying the gear on the screen, apparently! LOL). I knew exactly what I wanted in a Ranger and what price I was going to pay. I was running down my list with a salesman, and he kept telling me I couldn't get certain things in a Ranger, or in the XLT. He had absolutely no clue about the trucks at all, even though we test drove a Ranger with exactly the options I wanted!

My wife's car was hit back in September and I took her car shopping inn case her car was totaled. One of the places I took her was a Lincoln dealership to look at a Corsair. I was VERY impressed. First, the salesman sat down with us, in a lounge area, and discussed the Lincoln brand, then the car. Then we took a look at one in the showroom where he took us through all of the features and showed us how they worked. Then he took us on a test drive - he drove first, and showed us the features again, and then he let us drive. He was knowledgeable!

I tend to over research just about everything I buy.:inspect: So when it came time to buy my Ranger I read every article out there and looked up every model on the Ford website. Then while searching I found a link to R5G and read up on every thread. It was much easier back then when it was still new and there weren't so many members. Believe it or not there wasn't one damper thread or any mention of one. That needed fixing! ?

Having a good relationship with a dealer really helps which I had back in MA. Here I just got lucky when I went to Peoria Ford but when I was shopping for my Jeep the salesman there had no clue on what options the Rubicon came with. I still see many complain on the Bronco forum on how the salesman have no clue as to which options are in certain models.

It is fairly intuitive. But just because you manage to get the gear position to display, you may still not understand the true purpose for the +- button w/o reading the book.

In defense of car Sales People having been one before driving semi, the SP should have broad knowledge of the entire range s/he is expected to sell, be able to pair the customer's phone(s) to the vehicle's Bluetooth & Wifi, activate FordPass while the customer is signing out, Then point out where the fluid fills and dipstick are, where wiper/washer stalk is, where the mirror control is, how to turn on the high beams and how to set the seat, tilt/tele steering wheel & pedals if equipped (SP should know which things are in the particular vehicle). These are safety related features, and the customer should be able to leave the store safely and comfortably. Ford has a bunch of YouTube videos on operating all the features of all the models, the aforementioned manual download, and the SP can direct them there. I sincerely doubt any SP or OEM employee of any brand for that matter, could demonstrate every feature of every product they offer.
As long as they can leave the store comfortably and safely, the customer is responsible to find out how to set the equalizer, nav functions, sunroof tilt/retract, etc etc.
