This is probably stupid and well know by other people but...

Wow! I've owned my Ranger since 2019 and I've never noticed this! The gear your in is displayed to the left of the in dash screen on the XLT. It was pretty interesting watching how short of a time it spends in any gear during normal surface street driving.

So all this time you never seen this on your dash? Your were a cop too. Not very perceptive are you? ? ?

They all do this. lol On the Lariat you have to push the side button on the shifter for it to appear.

It is a 10 speed trans. Try driving a little slower and you will see that some speeds are skipped.

PS keep your eyes on the road.

It confounds me that some folks will buy a $40,000 machine with 14,000 parts and not read the manual that came with it to know how to operate it for the most enjoyment and safety.

You can download Owners Manuals here in .pdf form for free, for any Ford product going back to 1996. Much handier than running down to the garage in my jammies to look something up.
Thumbs Up.webp

Meantime, here is the pertinent page:

Now isn't that what this forum is for? To ask the same questions 100x's over because most don't read it?:lipssealed:

To be honest I've never read any owners manual ever. I'll have the salesman show me the basics then I'll just play around with all the buttons when I get home. lol

looking at the picture i thought you were talking about the useless speed WITH the speedo. something I don't understand. Why do I need 2 things to tell me how slow I'm going. what I need is a gauge to tell me how many cars are stuck behind me

Side note: what's up money bags with a full tank? fuel filler might be "siphon proof" but a hole in the plastic tank can still empty it

When I bought mine I just wanted to drive! Who needs instructions? But seriously the owners manual of today is so huge, and so many features, especially on the Lariat. And since I didn't get a paper manual I have to read the online version which on your phone is like microfiche, I haven't got through all of it yet but look up things when I discover something new. I think I understand the important stuff ?

I like how the Bronco (I'm guessing the F150 & others have this too) has the owners manual on the main screen. If you have the 12" screen it makes it really easy to scroll through it and find what you need. Although I'd probably still come on here and search or ask questions before using it. ?

Mandated by the Department of Redundancy Department. The same reason we have five clocks in the kitchen, all within sight of each other: Stove, Microwave, Coffeemaker, AM/FM/CD Player, and Portable Phone (land line).

My guess is it's one of those features that is locked out while in gear.
