Basic Question - Alternate Tire Sizes

This is no doubt a basic question…

For any given rim, how do I know or find out all possible tire sizes that fit that rim. I don’t want to add spacers, make offset changes, or do any crash bar removals…

And specifically, I have the 17” magnetics with 255/65r17. What are my size options for replacement tires?

If you go to TireRack.com and click on the tire that you have or are interested, you can then click on the specs for that tire and it will tell you what rIm width it will fit.

Thanks, much appreciated…so again, I apologize for the basic questions…other than taking a wheel off the truck and looking at the rim specs, how do i know my rim width size? I guess crawling under the truck is the other option…?

It all depends on what you have done or plan on doing to the truck. At stock height it has been confirmed to run 265/70-17 with little to no issue. If you have a lift (or a silly useless level) you can fit 285/70-17 Firestone Destination XT's on there with only little rubbing on the sway bar while still having the factory crash bars installed. Did I mention that you dont need wheel spacers either?!!!!

No plans for lifting or leveling…it’s stock…the driver behind the original questions is that I like to have 2 sets of wheels/tires. One set of true 3 mountain peak snow tires, and one set for the other 3 seasons. I have one set of 17” rims, and another of 18”. The 17” will get the snow tires. Probably 265/65-17 Blizzaks.

I have the same winter strategy, with a set of 18” for summer and 17” for winter. If you’re planning to travel to the mountains (Tahoe?) in snowy weather, and need to be able to use snow chains, I would stick with the stock size (including ET) wheels and tires.

OE wheel/tire sizes (excluding Tremor)
18x8 ET55 - 265/60R18
17x8 ET55 - 265/65R17, LT265/65R17
16x7 ET55 - 255/70R16

From the owner’s manual:

Only fit snow chains to the following specified tires:
* 255/70 R16 111T.
* 255/65 R17 110T.
* 265/65 R17 112T.
* 265/60 R18 110T.
* LT265/65 R17 109T.
Only use S-Class snow chains, 0.6 in (15 mm) chain links.
Only use manual tensioning chains. Do not use self-tensioning chains.
Only use snow chains in pairs on the rear axle.

Yep - I make many trips to Tahoe each winter. CHP don’t require chains if equipped with snow tires and 4WD….and after the second or third time wrestling with chains…never again, thank you. They do have to be true severe snow tires, tho’, no ATs.

Previous winters I have had an Outback, so this winter will definitely be a little different with the lighter back end of the Ranger.

255/75r17 are 32.8” tall, which is what I have on mine
