Hi Everybody, I am going to be installing an Outfitter Mfg Caribou Lite slide in camper on my 2023 Ranger. The tailgate will be removed, including the backup camera. The manufacturer of the camper can install a camera on the license plate frame that plugs into the existing wiring. Will I have full fuctionality of the camera? Thanks.

Hi Bill,

I think this might be answered better by Outfitters. I see no reason why a plug in compatible camera wouldn't work, but the relocation might prove less than optimal. If it was me, I would try it and see if it has full functionality....JMO

The camera itself should work as intended but I suspect the parking assist features won't work, unless the sensors in the back of your truck will have a clear view of what's behind you. Depending on how much the camper hangs over the back of your truck, distances to objects (warning beeps) would be off as well
I'd also think unless the camera is mounted in the center of the camper, the guide lines could possibly be off center as well, but the image should be there

Old thread, but I was searching this very topic. I was thinking of having a second camera mounted on the camper and just unplug the tailgate one and plug in the new compatible one.
Anyone done this or something similar?

That what I'm doing. Unplugging and replugging the camera is kind of a pain, it's behind the bumper. Since the tailgate has to come off, I gued it's the only option.
