I recently bought a wireless Air CarPlay adapter, so I'm using CarPlay a lot more. One issue with CarPlay since I bought the truck (2019 Ranger Lariat) is that everything works great except when I have a phone call, and then callers seem to not be able to hear me clearly...they state the sound is muffled. I suspect instead of using the truck's mic, it's using the phone mic (which happens to be in my pocket).

I've googled but not found any resolution yet. I updated Sync to the latest yesterday but still the same issue persists.

Anyone know how to fix?

There was a thread about this before and from what I remember there is no resolution at the moment. I have the same issue in my 2020, it has more to do with Sync rather than the model year. Its really a drag considering work fine via bluetooth.

Wow...that's really depressing. Do you happen to remember the thread link or name?

No, there is a setting in sync 3 that is called adaptive noise cancellation. Can’t remember where it is in the menu’s though. Pretty sure it uses the trucks microphone to pickup noise and adjust the system to adapt to the environment. Turn that off
I'll have to look, but the only thing I recall was the setting (forget what it's called) to adjust volume based on vehicle speed. Do you mean that, or something else?

yes, that’s one and I think their could be one more. Also found (iPhone) disable Bluetooth if you’re using the lightning jack for CarPlay. For whatever reason they don’t play nicely sometimes ether

Well, I don't want to jinx myself and I've finally figured out the magic handshake to make my iphone work, but I think I need both cable (for waze) and bluetooth (for everything else) to make it all work. I'm not messing with it to test cause we all know where that will lead.

OT: I use an old IPOD for music connected by cable, and then my phone for waze, phone, etc. If I plug both in before starting the truck, sync takes a dump and won't find my ipod. I have to start the truck, let it find the Ipod, then I can plug in the phone. I don't usually need waze so have learned to just not plug in the phone unless I want waze, then just don't plug it in before starting.

That’s part of the problem. It only wants to handshake with one at a time. Trying to do both is a mixed bag. You might find using a UBB stick with your tunes loaded on that with the Phone using CarPlay might get you better results.

I use Waze daily. I had similar problems with phone calls. I disabled Bluetooth on the phone and it all stopped. Waze is happy and my callers are too.

OK, well, I guess I will try it without bluetooth, but if it blows up I'm blaming you. I am not opposed to a USB stick, but I have a 32G ipod full of music and that's like a month worth of music if played 24/7, so i set the ipod to shuffle through all the music. Having a USB stick I would lose that.... I think.

After the USB drive is indexed, it will remember the song list and layout until you remove the drive, whereupon it will have to index it again the next time you insert it.

I always had better luck with an iPod than a USB drive.

Now I just use the iTunes/Apple Music app on my iPhone and it works great.

Sync 3 sees 2 Apple devices. It picks the first one. Then ping pong starts. It’s throwing the dice now

I've thought about moving all the stuff to my phone, but it's just easier for me to keep it on separate devices. It works for what I want, for now. I don't use itunes cause it sux, I am now using an app called mediamonkey to manage the ipod. My Ipod is old so no bluetooth.

If you have your music on a usb stick, you will still have the shuffle option. You can have sync ‘play all‘ and shuffle everything, or play a specific artist and shuffle that way too.
