Got this today in an email.

You are among a very select group of FORD RANGER owners/lessees invited to provide ongoing feedback to Ford Motor Company to help in the development of vehicles for the future.

This important customer collaboration project consists of participating in our ongoing data logger project. If your vehicle qualifies, we would like to install a data logger in your FORD RANGER for up to 12 months.

blah blah blah

I can't imagine me putting this on my vehicle, legit or not.
I'm already tracked more than I want to be.

But no, I've not heard of it

Yes Charlie, I received the same offer today. Considering I only drive the Ranger about 2,000 miles per year, my profile would probably not meet their needs.

I agree with Chris, this would not be something which I would be interested in participating even for the $300 they are offering.

I have to admit they are persistent. I just got a second invitation to have a data logger installed.

Sorry! No thank you. Not interested.

It is bad enough with all the electronic tolling, optical license plate readers, etc. I think I am tracked enough. In fact, a little too much. Never know when some seemingly inconsequential data might be used against you. Just ask Justice Clarence Thomas about his video rental history.

I received the first invitation on July 23 and the second today, July 28. Think they are having trouble having people support their request?

The modem in your truck already transmits more information to FORD that you probably even realize....What other data could they possibly be wanting?????????

I would not be surprised if the logger had voice recognition software looking for keywords in conversation in the cabin. Probably want to know what topics are being discussed or what radio program you are talking back to.

Don't laugh. There is lots of money to be made out of what seems meaningless things to you and I but correlated with the correct data provides a bonanza for market data research firms. Case in point, one firm records the video of trash cans dumped in those claw/grab garbage trucks to analyze who and what gets tossed. They analyze the video looking for recognizable brands and products. These companies are looking for patterns, not what you particularly toss out but what you and your neighbors toss out. If you bought it you'll eventually toss it. That is what they are looking for.

Look at the email address. It's not from Ford.

The part to the right of the @ is the domain, it's usually connected to the company that sent it.

fordresearch @escalentopinion.com

Unless they specifically and very clearly say they've been hired by Ford to collect data for Ford and Ford only, and Ford backs that up, I'd assume they're just another marketing info gathering & selling company. Or worse, a scam company. My $$ is on that last one & here's why:

There is no webserver at escalentopinion.com or www.escalentopinion.com, only info from the web hosting company.

There is a valid company called, Escalent Inc that provides market research services but their website is "escalent.co"

You could play them like a fish to see what they want, but be very careful giving out any true personal info, etc.

Hey can one of you guys ask for a detailed list of all data collected? You would think Ford (or "they" whoever is running this) has to tell you if you ask.

Good detective work.

The thing is, how do they know you have a Ford Ranger and have it linked to your email address? I think generally that information is only going to come from Ford. (or be sold by Ford)

Or there's some vendor that has collected your vehicle info, has your email address and has sold it. All you guys getting this, where have you bought mods from? Let's find out if some vendor is guilty.

The same week I bought my Ranger I started getting spam phone calls & email about extended warranties. Then the scam ones started, too. My money is on the dealer selling to marketing companies, but it could be anyone from SiriusXM to the insurance company. Or as you said, other vendors. These days I pretty much assume anyone who has access to my info is going to sell it.

those FORD surveys you complete about the dealership or service aren't sent out by FORD either. they use a third party company.

So, I am not sure why the big investigate work.
