2020 Ranger X, and yes I know there are numerous threads on our radio, sync, infotainment system. But damn, I am sick and tired of mine cutting off and re-booting for no apparent reason. I wish I would have listened several years ago and opted out of all updates, ugh ?. as it use to not do this: listening to music, usually, either CarPlay or local station and screen goes black and several seconds later re-boots and picks up where it left off ?. It seems to happen more frequently then in the past.
Anyone have any experience with this happening to them

What SYNC version are you on? If you are not on lastest, can't remember what it is right now. You need to upgrade to it. May have to use a USB stick to do it, not sure OTA updates work with it. Besides it takes forever to do. A previous version had all kinds of issues and that's probably where your stuck.

The current version is 3.4.23188 and you're right it has (or works much faster) with a USB drive than over wifi. Mine with the old version had all kinds of glitches and was progressively getting worse the longer I had it and wouldn't update OTA. The new version cleared everything up and has been running great since.

Bruce, if you have trouble updating it you can call the Ford In Vehicle Technology Dept 800-392-3673. They'll walk you through getting it downloaded and set up. This was the first time I updated from a USB drive (all the others were over wifi) and I didn't want to mess anything up.

Hey Dave, I’m on the current version updated using USB, which I have done for all my updates. The problem that I mentioned in my OP persist after each update. I haven’t taken it in to the dealer because I’m skeptical about them fixing it because they may not be able to replicate the problem. However, it may be time to take it in anyway

Did you do a master reset after the updates? Sometimes this will get rid of the gremlins.

I have not, but now that you mention it I guess it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

I think the issue is more than Sync Version (Software), I think it's more of a bad connection somewhere - as its dropping power and then re-powers. So, voltage or Ground issue or a Can Bus issue for (Ignition-Run) signal data. To anything in the Sync System.
Or a momentary short in the system and the system is shutting down and repowering.

Do you have the B & O with the DSP (Amp)?

Be very attentive - when it does this and note everything that powers off and what is lost.
I see the Sync Screen, but is there anything else, like the FCIM (Phyician Buttons) & (Backlighting)

Does the (HVAC) system also drop?

The best thing to do is during the current ignition cycle as it has done this - (Before Cycling the Ignition to Off) - Scan for codes - This may pinpoint down what in the system is dropping power or shorting.

ACM (Audio Head Unit)- APIM (Sync) - FCIM (Front Panel)-FDIM (Display) or the DSP (Amp) or Speaker (short)

As I suspect you should see a (Code for Power Loss) or (Short) or (Loss of Com) it may or may not remain as a historical code and when you cycle the ignition to off, it clears without any history of it.

@airlinetech thank you for your input!! The only system effected is the radio; powers off, screen goes black, re-boots a few seconds later, and picks up where it left off…. I like the idea of checking for codes, which I will do next time it happens ?
