I’m finally bringing the Ranger in for an oil change. While I’m very satisfied with the towing capability (355# camper) in our Colorado mountains, I’m wondering if the view is worth the climb for this $800 super tuneup that that gives 50 more horsepower and 50 more pound feet of torque. With the penalty of requiring premium fuel, at 10,000 miles per year I figure the cost is $3-500 a year penalty. Any experience out there?

I am very happy with it. I was already running premium but picked up about 1 mpg with the tune. You can find tune for less.

I’d like the extra power but I put on 400 to 500 miles a week between commuting and driving for work stuff and with the price of gas going up it’s not worth the extra 60 cents a gallon.

I installed the tune and my MPG has also increased by about 1 MPG (over last 1500 miles) but it is hard to say if that is truely what it is from since my truck only has about 3000 miles on it. Where I am at, I can get 93 octane for about $.40 per gallon over 87. I drive about 15,000 miles a year so I pay about $5.77 a week more for 93 octane fuel, without factoring for better MPG since I dont know for sure the tune increased it.
I liked my truck before but I really like it now. I will gladly pay the cost of one coffee from Starbucks a week for the increased performance.

I love this engine and love it even more in the HP 2020 Mustang even more. If I could make my Ranger feel like the Mustang engine it would be worth it!
