Follow up to this.
The engine seems to be fine, no issues. It has not been anywhere as cold as it was. With seasonal norms, that part is fine.

The transmission does have me concerned. Very sluggish when cold. I have a couple tight turns as I leave my parkade and get to the main road, and I notice the truck really slows down around these turns. it is okay after a minute of driving. RPMs increase as I add throttle, but no speed increase. The lag in shifting from drive to reverse and reverse to drive is back. No leaks, no clunk or other odd noise coming from the trans.
Probably best to book it in at the dealership.

The joys of living in Canada, we have the opposite problem here, when towing my caravan up steep mountains ( well we call'em mountains you guys would probably laugh) here in summer say 35-40 deg C occasionally I'll feel the ECU de-rate my 3.2 diesel somewhat, presumably to help save my auto (or maybe my pistons, cracked or holed pistons are not unknown on the 3.2 diesel over here in hot conditions under load) under these conditions. You try to kick it down and it just won't, stomp your foot and nothing happens, once over the climb and it cools down, back to normal.
