Greetings. Appreciate the kind response & Merry Christmas wishes. (same to you). I agree, ”Different strokes for different strokes“ is what I always say. I put on ~40k miles per year for my employers and the seat / cab / ride comfort is an absolute must. I test drove every mid-size truck manufacturer‘s offering before purchasing the Santa Cruz. Was extremely surprised the Recaro seats in the Ranger Raptor were the only ones as comfortable as the Santa Cruz being a race-style seat, and I was actually going to purchase a 2025 Ranger Raptor until I realized they did not offer ventilated seats in any Ranger (important in Arizona), and the dealers also wanted $5k to $10k over MSRP (a poor financial investment decision already taking a significant depreciation hit driving a new vehicle off the lot). So if Ford can pull their head out of their butt and offer ventilated seats like most of their competitors, and the dealers quit insisting on selling Ranger Raptor’s for over MSRP, will surely be my next new truck purchased if still available a few years from now.
The problem is the Santa Cruz isn't really a mid-size truck, it's in the same vein as a Maverick. It should ride better as it has a small SUV front-wheel drive based drive train and suspension. It's not made to face the same obstacles of a real truck, it's more like a small front wheel or AWD car or SUV with a tiny box on the back.

Well, no one found anything offensive. It’s just weird that you’re on the 5g Ranger forum comparing a 6g Ranger to your car.
I simply belong to both online owner forums and have been asked my opinion comparing the two platforms, simple as that. No offense meant either way.

The Santa Cruz looks like it would be more comparable to a Maverick than a Ranger to me.

Not comparable in US sales numbers, 2025 ytd according to Hyundai Santa Cruz has sold 23,889 units, whilst the Ford Maverick has sold 141, 873 or nearly 6 times as many units, numbers don't lie and personally I'd rather be drawn and quartered than seen driving a Santa Cruz. Yes I have owned a Hyundai and my daughter had 2, the 2007 Elantra was ok, but her 2017 Tucson was garbage, my 2013 Santa Fe was ok but like so many Hyundais they become oil burners as they age. No more Hyundais for me or my family.

Fair points, and no offense taken. Was simply comparing the two platforms from a driving & capability perspective regarding my personal experiences & opinions. I will point out that the Hyundai 2.5L engine is a much closer comparison to the 2.3L engine in the Ranger than the 2.0L in the Maverick, and Hyundai gave up some bed space to make the back seat feel more like the Ranger cab than the Maverick. This is what makes it feel more like a mid-size truck when driving than a compact. I always tell people just go drive one. I was not a fan of Hyundai until I drove the Santa Cruz, and still not a fan of many of their other platforms.

Won’t argue with sales statistics. There are many reasons why the Maverick is so popular, including offering a hybrid option as well as a slightly lower price point (most people are seeking the lowest price point when purchasing these low budget vehicles). Like I previously stated, I drove them all before purchasing, including the Maverick & Ranger, then chose based on the most comfortable seating, interior layout, paved road comfort (95% of miles driven), and of course warranty terms & coverages. As for personal past issues, our 2017 Ford Expedition Limited was a mechanical nightmare from the rear end that exploded at only 27k miles, constant cam phaser issues, warped & leaking exhaust manifolds, the list goes on & on. My 2021 Ford F250 had a transmission design flaw that Ford has been aware of (CDF drum) and has no intention of recalling in hopes it fails outside of warranty so the customer pays out of pocket vs warranty. You are truly rolling the dice regarding any new vehicle you purchase today whether you get a lemon or not. But I was simply comparing my personal experiences and opinions after driving both vehicles. Nothing more, nothing less.

Im Still a big NO 👎 no matter what the specs say , can't get past the looks... especially if somebody is hauling something like a washer/dryer or working man stuff in one, it just looks "off" to me and I would need a paper bag over my head for fear of being seen in it 🙃... but im old school, and I skipped most of that...

I think one point that has been missed by OP, is that they are comparing a 6G Ranger to the Santa Cruz and posting about it on a 5G Ranger forum. While we likely look at the 6G, it's not really a topic of discussion on this forum. The NA Raptor and ROW Super Duty also are more appropriately discussed on a 6G Ranger forum, since both are based on that generation.

You must use a different user name in the other forums as a search didn't find this user name in them. So who asked you to compare them?

I think it’s a nice looking truck. My father has debated getting one but now is leaning towards the kia sorenta? Sorento? Idk. I’ve sat in a couple and they are very comfortable. I have sat in a maverick as well - the Santa Cruz wins out for the interior imo.

Both my parents have had Kia’s, which are basically Hyundai and vice versa for 5 years now and have been very happy with them. They are quite nice for the price.

Glad you like the truck though. I appreciate others sharing more info on other vehicles, especially when you can compare it to the ranger!

Well, a lot of people have confused this 5G forum with the 6G forum before. While the 2 are different they're still somewhat similar in specs unless you have the 2.7 motor. I'm betting that those criticizing the OP wouldn't be if he said he liked the Ranger better. lol

It just seamed like a strange out of left field thread to me, The one thing I will say is the picture he posted of that Tremor is one fine looking truck.

The bed size is what turns my away from the Hyundai.
I have a Santa Cruz and the bed seems bigger to me than it looks. But my 2019 Ranger, ‘Ol Butterscotch, is my very favorite.

So, this is basically what I’ve tried to point out. I could ignore the post if it was in the “other vehicles” or “non-Ranger vehicles” or whatever it’s called thread but the original post is in the primary Ranger5g forum.

Maybe the OP doesn’t realize this forum is focused on the 2019-2023 5g Ranger and their work truck is a 6g Ranger. I don’t know if they’re lost, trolling, or something else.

In the meantime, I’m heading over to Tacoma World to post about my Passat. I’ll let you all know how that goes.

The 2013 Santa fe 2.0t we owned was virtually trouble free, but pre purchase mpg epa, was 27/21 , but hyundai got caught willfully falsifying the mpg test , and was rerated to 24/19 , they were fined $100m , then came the theta II engine debacle where they were fined $200m and had to replace what ultimately might be 1 m engines. But Hyundai and KIA keep improving, but for me can't say I have any plans to own again. I have seen reports they are having issues with some of their newer engines so the 100k/10yr power train warranty is a good thing.
Forgot to mention Hyundai/KIA's latest settlement involving 36 states was $500m for making cars so prone to theft one could learn from a Youtube (KIA challenge) video how to easily steal, it could have been prevented had they spent $50 per vehicle for engine immobilizer, something that most every mfg has included for yrs.
Hyundai-Kia Settles with 36 States Over 9 Million Theft-Prone Vehicles
When a TikTok video shows teenagers how to steal your product with a USB cable and a screwdriver, you have a design problem. When you already solved that problem for customers in Canada and Mexico but not the United States, you have an explanation problem. Hyundai and Kia now have a $500 million settlement.

And to expand my displeasure with Hyundai part of the settlement for falsifying mpg ratings those victimized were entitle to a one time monetary settlement or life of ownership compensation based on miles driven, I chose the lifetime compensation, Hyundai never made it easy to collect and the last time I applied they denied comping me saying I had to drive a certain no of miles to qualify, this was not part of the settlement terms and I had previously been comped with miles less than this incident, so it was an out and out lie, I pursued this thru Hyundai channels and a mid level mgr promised me I would be comped and again it was just lip service. So done with them.

Make sure you point out how much more reliable that Passat is than the new Tacoma….😂🤣👍
