Failures I had included fuel pump, ac, shift position rod and eventually clutch (common although mine lasted 80k) spark plug wires , front rotors, rear brake calipers and several rear suspension components - sway bar and struts. When a rear strut failed I had Sears replace the pair , lifetime guarantee and they had to be replaced twice, rear sway bar broke twice. I lived in Pittsburgh then and had a 1986 Saab 9000, when working on the SHO a lot of bolts on underside components would just snap off, whereas bolts on the Saab wouldn't. Most of these failures occurred with relatively low miles - several before the 12/12 warranty expired.
Ouch.

I know the clutch was a problem on all of them until late 1991 when it got a bigger clutch.

Mine was a 1994 model.

I never experienced any of those issues, but then I traded it at around 50k for an SUV (Ford Explorer) when our first child was born.

A few years ago I took my 68 3/4 T PU to get its annual emissions test. The test tech said open your hood I have to check your emission equipment. I said there is none. He said I still have to look. The hood latch is not inside the truck. I got out and opened the hood for him. He looked at my Engine and called another young guy over to look. I said havent you guys ever seen an Engine? They said close the hood. My truck always passes just as well as any of the newer stuff. He said that you passed an I drove away. I laughed all the way home because he got so confused that he forgot to charge me $11.25 for the test.

I looked under the hood and thought someone stole the engine cover. Looked fairly ugly. Researched and found it is stock only on the lariat. $5 worth of blowed foam. Researched and found cheapest part (CArID about $65), put it on. Motor is a little quieter. I can better hear my CAI and Cat back Flowmaster exhaust. HAppy with it. Not happy Ford deletes it from all but lariat.

Actually deleted from all of them right now.

I think they pulled it from the Lariat in 2021.

Along with other cost cutting measures that were implemented as time went by.

Not all deletions of items are for cost cutting. Many are for supply chain issues.

I had a 1991 SHO - I recall my intake manifold as sliver, yamaha IIRC did the upper end of the engine and used a Ford block. It was a fun car but I found quality to be really subpar - had an extensive list of things that broke/failed. The engine was reliable and for the time powerful.

Yamaha did the whole V6 engine. The V8 was a Duratec block with Yamaha heads.

I had a 92 and 95 SHO. The 95 got a little more attention. I haven't owned one in almost 10 years:

If you've ever seen this blue SHO around the net, YouTube, or Netflix, I am the guy behind the keyboard on it (my avatar is me tuning the car on Netflix). :) The engine is a little different now (still on stock heads and crankshaft), but we did run an 8.9 @ 170mph on the stock block, crank, and heads.

I used to have a Taurus SHO

The Yamaha engine was a thing of beauty.

You can slightly tell from this image but they were actually gold in color.

Very few were gold-ish in color. Most of them were silver, like the picture.

Imagine a Ranger with a SHO V6? Perhaps add on a centrifugal blower, and wowzie!
