Spacers give clearance from stuff like spindles / suspension components. It however diminishes clearance on things like intrusion bars / liners / bumpers.

This is why raising the truck higher is required the bigger the spacer/wheel/tire combo to get the contact point away from the apex of the tire circumference. Sorry that is the only way I know how to describe it in words. Someone with a background in tires/engineering could probably do a better job.

I'm confused. I thought spacers gave more clearance. Maybe this is just for older trucks?

So larger spacers = more chance of rubbing?

When your wheels are pointed straight ahead, spacers or a lower wheel offset push the tire outward away from the suspension components. Imagine if you turned your wheels all the way and then put a spacer between the rotor and the rim - you’d be pushing your tires toward the crash bars.

In this photo, the horizontal lines represent the crash bars. The shaded tire is the “new” position.

I am currently discussing the pros and cons of 285/70 R17 vs 285/55 R20 tires. Can you tell us more about your experience with the 285/70 R17 tires? How do they perform in different conditions? Are you happy with them overall?

For off roading, you can run lower pressure with 285/70-17...
