Ok. You can still buy a regular cab F-150 with a 6.5' box. Total length is about an inch less then the Ranger. If it's a comparable model to the Ranger you'd think those things would be flying off the lots, but I can't remember the last time I saw anyone buy one other then for commercial purposes.
Regular cabs are a turnoff outside of fleets. Overall length is 231.7" for an F-150 SuperCab vs 210.8 for the Ranger. The take rate for a reg cab/6.5 box vs 8' box is less than half, closer to 1:3.

It is all about the money. Ford doesnt want to sell stuff that doesnt make money. It is not Fords fault that developers/contractors build short garages to make more money. Parking lots also are designed for little cars. I am amazed at all of the requests for a special configuration that "I" just think that Ford should build.

The funny thing is, I have never seen a supercab here in person. All crews. Nothing against them, just don't see them.
Yup, it's the usual chicken and egg problem. Ford doesn't make them available on lots, and then complains that they don't sell. If I hadn't special ordered mine I probably wouldn't have it because they are basically never on a local dealer lot. (Sometimes base model work truck configurations, but never up-optioned.)

As fas width, 5 inches doesn't make much of a difference.
It's already hard to get a ranger into some parking spots. (Or, it's hard to get out of the ranger once parked.) Another 5 inches would make it that much harder.

I think that for most of the Ranger's market profile, a SuperCrew offers the best compromise. It is a relatively economical commuter and family hauler/chore truck, and capable off pavement, and doesn't look like an SUV, which is largely why the Maverick andHyundai Santa Cruz are so popular; good interior space, easy payment and a good changeup from the last two or three SUVs in the family fleet. Those of us that want or need a 6' box, but don't need or want a full four door cab are in the minority, myself included.
Well yeah, the main problem for those of us that want a truck to truck stuff is that the manufacturers are making money hand over fist selling short bed 4 doors to people who would really be better off with a minivan but prefer the lifestyle signaling of a truck.

The proper comparison to that would be a ranger with a single cab, but you can't buy that thing from ford in the US. They used to sell them to orkin by the boatload.

I'd like to see a V6 option outside of the Raptor, maybe the Bronco spec 2.7L in the Lariat? But that is so unlikely it hurts to even think about. For the money you could probably also get a 2.7L F-150.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I also wouldn't mind seeing a more street oriented trim, maybe an ST, akin to the old F-150 Lightnings.

I don't know what the issue is either. When people want a 6.5' bed and don't want 4 doors, an f150 is probably a better option when looking purely at size.
I think looking at the current f150 vs an f150 from 97-04 there is a large and noticeable size difference. The ranger appears to be more of the same size as the 97-04 f150

You can still buy that combo of an F-150 and it's about 209" long right now so I don't know what the issue is. If you want a truck that's an inch shorter then a Ranger then order a standard cab F-150 with a 6.5' bed. If that's still too large get a Maverick.
A Maverick!?!?! But I want a real truck!

I will say I say an SVT last night while I was out and it does look similar in size to the current Ranger. It may be smaller than the 6g.

I don't care about hed length. It's all about towing for me. I bought a SCREW because occasionally I have grandkids and a big dog to haul around. 90% of my driving is grocery and sightseeing. About 10% is serious hauling of a 6200 pound boat, mostly less than 250 miles. So I found a truck that fits my 90% criteria and is okay at the other 10%. The 24 ranger will still fulfill that need, but not in a PHEV configuration.

Ford was never going to put the 2.7eco into the base ranger. Not at the risk of dropping low end f150 sales. Now that the word is out I don't expect them to even try reengineering the ranger powerplant into a 2.5 which would make more sense.

Ford must be making some money on the ranger or they would have just dumped it. Plus they are loathe to give any market share to GM if at all possible. For my money if I decide to part with my Lariat in the next few years it would be for a new Canyon Denali as my old behind likes a smooth ride, and off roading is way in my rear view.

I am currently hauling a 26' bay boat on a tandem axle trailer. The ranger seems to pull it pretty well.

What makes you think a PHEV Ranger won't fulfill your needs? I would argue it would perfectly fill your needs. Electric only for those short jaunts around town to the grocery store and for errands. And still have the gas backup for everything else. If your concern is towing, then I wouldn't expect the PHEV to be any less adept at towing. If anything it might be even better. It would have more HP and torque, since it'll likely be the 2.3L with an additional electric motor, with most of that torque kicking in right away thanks to the electric assist. The F-150 Hybrid can tow as much or more than a regular F-150.

What you describe is my experience with my Wrangler PHEV. (except I don't tow). If the battery on the PHEV did 40 miles instead of 28, that would be even better.

Report them to Ford corporate.
Dealers are their own worst enemy, and the reason that Ford wants to go to direct to consumer.
Thinking about it, such a turn off.
