Hi folks,

I've been monitoring every fillup I've done since I got my ranger 2.2, and im a little confused.

In stingy, and like to get every drop of fuel I can before I start to worry about the fuel pump (I know this may be seen as bad, but never had an issue personally), but recently my range to empty seems to be getting worse and worse? but that being said, heres a recent example:

(UK measurements, but theory applies):

-Filled up 14.83 litres, which cost me £20.01.
-last MPG reading was 32.77
-Computer read 160 miles till empty.
-I got to 80 miles before it said I had 0 miles... computer was reading 33.8mpg for this fillup.
-gallons used from computer (uk): 2.91 uk gal, which is 13.22 litres, however from my previous calculations (from tracking fillups since day 1), I know there is 23.78 litres still in the tank when I stopped to fill up?

I can frequently get 50+ miles past 0 t/e without any issues, but always freak out that I'm wrong and the truck actually has nothing left...

Does the sensor require there to be a certain amount of fuel in there to prevent damage to the pump? If so, why (at times) have I still got a calculated 20~% left in the tank when I'm waaaaaay past what it tells me is empty?

Dodgy fuel sensor?

I've attached a screenshot of my most recent fillups for reference.

Do you have a fuel gauge with a needle as well? Does it show empty?

could have a faulty sending unit. Or the float is stuck in someway odd way.

Hey dude, looks like the fuel gauge follows the miles to empty calculations.

For example right now I filled up £25 yesterday, around 18 litres, bringing the total tank to 42litres. I've used 11 and its saying I've got 22 miles left... something definitely wrong ?

Has to be the sending unit. Or the wiring for it. Wonder if it needs recalibration? If that is even a thing

in the past I have pushed it to 20+ Past 0 to empty, I think there is a 40 mile buffer built in so if you notice 0 to empty you can at least get to the next exit, all my other trucks I could get 20 after it hits 0, one of these days I will carry a 5 gal can and push it till it actually runs TF out ....
I wish it had a count down after 0 LOL -1, -10 (-20 red light you are about to be walking)

I wonder if the UK Fords have the same ability to recalibrate as the US ones (AKA 'engineering mode')?

Being unfamiliar with the Euro models I don't know how catastrophic running the fuel system dry might be so Ford may have intentionally built in those buffers. My lowest range left was something like 34 miles before I filled up with a little over 17 gallons.

I'm intrigued as to what the engineering mode is? Not heard of it before, having come from a navara we used to have the pedal dance, is there something similar with rangers? Or any secret menus or hidden gizmos in the software that may help?

Cheers

This is the thing, I've maxed 70mile before chickening out, thinking I'd have nothing left in the tank to find I've still got 15litres left, its bloody weird... usually I'd never push it past when it tells me to, out of principle of not wanting to overheat or dry out the fuel pump, this is just odd

since MPG on the dash is based on its own data collected (and its wrong)
because of my tires I am 10% off, when the dash reads 60 I am doing 66 via Sat./GPS so my miles are off too so I really have more miles than the 46k showing, also getting better than 10% on gas Calc so if the MPG reads 10% too my 18 to 20mpg should be up to 22 actual .... when I run the tires at 41 and not 32 I also see better MPG
I have not used forscan yet for anything I need to set the tire size and a few other things :)

Perfect reason to get a tune! They can adjust for tire size too. Even stock mine was off, tuner allowed me to fix it.
