People need to stop feeling bad for waitresses, honestly.

The average waitress is making more than the stoned sexual deviants making the food... by quite a bit. If it's a good waitress.. they'll even be making a bit more than management.

I do this all the time and most will say "sir, you gave me to much money". I tell them I don't want any more pennies and the register will tell you what to do.:facepalm:
I started to tell the young lady to just enter into the register, but I started feeling sorry for her. She's a sweet kid, but a good example of our education system these days. I'm old, and I started on a completely manual cash register at a local hardware store. If I screwed up I'd get my butt chewed out by the owner. But thankfully I had real teachers that taught us that 2+2 equals 4. And, calculators were banned in our school system when they first came out. And now I'm glad they were.

If your bill is $5.83 give the cashier $6.03, and watch them glaze over like a deer caught in your headlights. I watched on young lady almost freak out at one of our local restaurants when I did this. I gave her about 45 seconds, and then told her to give me the pennies back. These kids are our future, and I'm worried.
If I'm there, I give them about 3 seconds and then I say you give me $1.80 back. :D

I do not believe legislating wages helps much at all.
there are people out there with no ambition, think school is a joke & dont care about bettering themselves except to want things given to them.
wages go up when help is hard to get & we are seeing that now. in this area most fast food places offer $15 an hour to start. yet a lot of those people in that type of job wont show up on time, miss work often & really do not care about doing a good job.
a friend operates a fast food place, his best help is older or semi retired types and 2 mentally slow
people. he pays a bit better to the good help, new hires are a wait & see proposition.

I tip well when the service is good, leave a bit less when service is poor.

Since 1968 if minimum wage followed inflation then it would be $21.00 an hour.
At least - probably more. I had my first car, a motorcycle, a bicycle, my first apartment, paid all of my own bills and still attended high school (split session) on a $2.00 per hour job at a local Ford dealer. I checked in new cars off of the carrier, prepped new cars, ran errands and did most anything within reason. Minimum Wage was $1.60 at the time. I also wasn't competing with illegal aliens for jobs and housing.

Minimum Wages tanked when corporate CEO 'pay packages' exploded upwards. Food for thought: https://www.epi.org/publication/ceo-compensation-2018/

So, I go to lunch today... Order my food. The attendant asks me my name, I tell her "Jim".

I get the receipt and it says my name. I'm curious so I look in my old paperwork only to find out that my real full name is "Gymnasium".

Looks like I've been spelling it wrong for 64 years.

Who knew?!!

Maybe if we up the min wage to 15 an hour fewer catalytic converters would come up missing. Think of the Toyotas!

I am just happy ours are a PITA to get to, but waiting for someone to remove my resonator...... Insurance buying new exhaust, very nice. Anyway.. back to the topic of dumb people not needing to make enough to eat working a 40 hour job in most cities.

Just go to eastern Europe. They don't tip there.
True. We don't tip normally. Employer pays decent salary for the staff and that's it.

If you do something special which warrants a tip, you'll still going to get one. But for normal work which is expected, you'll only get your salary.

Much simpler for everyone.

In here the issue comes if you pay with cash. The cashier might not have seen that and needs to consult on the machine what to do with it. If you bring large bill they might refuse as the cash box might be just 20$. Most people just use the NFC on the the card for the payment or if it's a larger sum then we use the pin machine thingy.

German tourists tend to freak out when kids are playing .10€ candies with cards.

Edit: I just realized that I don't get receipt from the grocery store. It's electronically stored and comes to my phone :p Same with 20% of the restaurants.
