Hi all,

my 110v power inverter appears to have issues with a small load (white noise generator. 100ma max wall wart). When hooked directly to the outlet, power will either pulse or be completely inop. What’s interesting is if I parallel in a 40w lamp to make the load higher it works just fine. Turn off the lamp and it begins pulsing again.

Took it to the dealer and showed him. Best they could do was test another ranger and it did the same thing. This morning on FB, I saw someone else mention their outlet not working with small loads.

I have not put it on an o’scope to look at waveforms. Is this a pretty common issue? Any fix? Anyone know the inverter output specs (trip curves, etc)?

thanks in advance

I have the same issue using a wall charger for my cell phone. (It charges 2-3x faster than the 12V outlet)

For mine, unplugging it and plugging it back in a few times seems to trigger it to turn on. I'm guessing it's some sort of control circuit that leaves power off until it senses a load. Wish there was more info available as to what levels trigger it to turn on.

I’m glad I found this. I’ve been going crazy today trying to figure out why my cell phone charger cycles on off every few seconds - like it’s pulsing - when plugged into the 110v outlet. Strangely - it does not do this in the 110v outlet in my explorer. But at least I’m not crazy. And for what it’s worth - if I unplug a few times, it eventually gets the message.
