Shawn Woods responded to me and is going to take back the damaged shaft and build a new one for me. There is still excellent customer service in this world. Outside of the UPS inflicted damage, the driveshaft is a quality piece of work. Thank you, Shawn!
I put a machinist rule across the dent and it really shows the depth. I am going to wait to hear from Shawn on what to do with the shaft but I won't install it like this.
Gotta love UPS. Not sure if this is a problem. One end of the box was open when I got home and looks like a dent on the shaft. Any opinions if this is an issue.
I left Shawn a message at his shop and here on the forum. Hopefully this is a non-issue.
I had a 1981 Chevy C10 Standard Cab long box, one piece shaft, no loop. I learned how to drive in that thing as well as my brother. We beat the crap out of it but maintained it. Never had a problem. That shaft was a similar length but 3 1/2" diameter. Went into triple digits (on a...
I placed the order for my Tom Woods driveshaft today. Looking forward to shudder free take-offs. It may actually make my NYC commute pleasant, or at least better.
It could definitely be made cheaper and stronger with Kindorf/Unistrut and some bolt-on axle mounts. I decided to buy this as my list of projects was bigger than the time I had to be creative.
Shawn, thank you for the information. I am a former Navy engineer, and we use a term "trust, but verify". I want to trust people but when that trust has been broken by the people who I hoped to fix my Ranger, Ford, I become skeptical. Thank you for taking the time to research and document...
I'm in agreement with you.
I work in the HVAC industry and planned obsolescence is here too. I always used to bitch about the crappy control relays used in packaged commercial AC units. I found out it is to keep service contractors in work and sell marked up replacement components. If Ford is...
I singled out this quote specifically as to when I spoke with Shawn Woods on the phone a few months ago he did indicate there was at least one case where the single piece driveshaft did not fix the issue. We did not go into specifics why. He had the customer return the shaft and issued a refund.
What I find interesting about the driveline shudder is a number of things.
1. There is a TSB that is specific to the take-off driveline shudder. I has been confirmed that if a TSB exists that there is a number of cases that the engineering group is involved in trying to resolve it.
2. I have...
I am agreement with you. My relative is not in a technical group, but was at one time, and reached out to people in the engineering areas. I think there are solutions but Ford has prioritized their efforts in electric vehicles and dealing with quality control issues on their cash cows that our...
What is very interesting is Ford has used both one and two piece driveshafts on F-150's over the years. They have also been affected by the driveline shudder. I asked a relative of mine, who has worked for Ford for a considerable time, about the Ranger and F-150 driveshaft applications. He...
The device in this thread being referred to is not an EGR valve. It is the EGR differential pressure feedback sensor. If you ask for an EGR valve, you will not get what your need.
It is not difficult if you don't mind getting under your truck and doing some wrenching. A fellow forum member did a great video on how to do it. The grease in the kit I posted the link to supersedes the grease in the video.
Nice video work. I'm getting mine ordered today.
I'm going to send that video link to a relative at who works for Ford and has been helping me try to get some resolution on this issue.
Recently, the field service engineer who worked with the driveline tech said all driveline angles were good...
