The Ranger was the least expensive new vehicle to meet my requirements. I needed 1800lbs payload, 7000lbs towing, and a combined rating to allow both at the same time. ā21 Ranger XLT SCAB, $27,214. So I bought it, added a few things, and drive it.
Escape Trailer Industries is not the KV stick built Escape you are referring to. It is a fully molded fiberglass trailer built in Chiliwak, BC. Itās a totally different level of price and build quality. Iām at the lake in mine right now.
Thor and Forest River between the two of them make most of the brands. You can buy a higher quality niche brand, but generally the parts and appliances used will be the same as the cheapest trailers. I find fully molded fiberglass trailers last longer, have less maintenance, and have much...
Somewhere under towing, I have posted a CAT scale worksheet to help you get your weights. I donāt have internet for at least a week, so hopefully a forum search will turn it up for you.
Car hauler trailers arenāt as cheap, and when you get to your RV site you have to find space for the trailer and truck which many times doesnāt work.
Tongue weight for proper balance and truck payload are a genuine consideration. My trailerās gross is 5K and I am typically around 4600-4700lbs and 560lbs on the tongue. I got the Ranger set up with 1827 for payload. Loaded, I am below my 12,100 combined, but only about 400-500lbs.
An airstream is probably the only non fully molded fiberglass trailer I would consider. I really like the Equalizer WDH, and yes to the SCAB. I too have 4600ās and Blue Sumos with āfactoryā brake controller, although I prefer the P3. Nice weight that hits the Ranger sweet spot. That rig...
The BAK came with foam, the Truxedo did not. Iāve added additional weather stripping, but both still leak, and both have had durability issues. Neither manufacturer has provided great support in my case. As I said, no more roll ups for me.
I have a BAK Revolver 4. It leakes some up front. My other truck has a Truxedo roll up. It leaks a bit at the front too. All in all, neither roll up has been great, and from now on Iāll likely buy folders.
Went fine today. Another 300 and Iāll be at my eclipse location which is forecast for clouds, but I know Iāll get. 5 minute cloud break at the right time in the right place. :like:
Went 90-100 miles today. Half of that on sandy roads. No problem. Will plan on towing 350 miles tomorrow on 2 lane. Weāll see, but I donāt expect any problems.
