So one thing I've noticed with my new trans - it doesn't skip shifts. Is this normal?
I mean at normal acceleration the trans will do normal upshifts from first to fourth in sequence?
And as I stated in my trans terror thread its gotten significantly better with each day?
D
Okay so I've read about this and I've tried to search out the answer I was wanting and didn't really get it.
Basically I'm just wanting to know what is going on? Hose turns to mush and allows the clutch control wires to get jerked out?
Does anyone have an idea of what to look for? I've seen...
He came back, got a flea dip and a vet visit. :)
So one question on the transmission...is it possible it was overfilled by the shop? Would it have taken that long to puke? Secondly would the overfull state have caused the slam shift event?
I am hoping that is the case however there is one thing I forgot to add :(
I noticed some splatter on my tailgate and that telltale smell. If it were leftover fluid it would have been smelling up much sooner. :(
SO...I am curious...what would the chances be that I could have the same issue occurring with a different transmission? The adaptive shift smoothed out with no issues. Then today in traffic I accelerated and had a super hard shift and was holding at 9th gear when it should have gone into 10th...
Yep...now I am afraid to be afraid lol...if I soft-pedal it will it freak out? If I hammer it will it freak out? If I look at the gear shift will it freak out. If I don't treat it the exact way it wants will it freak out and start spitting fluid and parts at me again lol
I figure to hell with...
Remember everyone I was out of pocket "only" 1200.
Geico Mechanical Breakdown Insurance FTW.
I don't know why but I get the sneaking suspicion that they marked up this work to make bank.
PLUS - again I am getting a 3 year 36k warranty on the transmission instead of the usual 1 year 12k I...
So about 300 miles in - mostly highway - and the adaptive shift is finally starting to calm down and shift very similar to how it was prior to the transmission going out.
I do notice that, as the majority of my travel is on the freeway, my part throttle shifting strategy seems to be a bit...
I posted back in July about getting some Bronco take-offs with tires for about 700 and so far they are awesome :)

I only have about 50 miles on it. the upshift from 3 to 5 is hard but smoothing out. All the other shifts are stiffer than I remember but not BAD. I figure it will be at least another 200 or so miles before it figures out what it needs to do? OR should it be longer?
Final update - hopefully :D
Got my baby back!
Fresh Motorcraft transmission per the documentation from the shop - 7 grand for that unit, plus labor etc etc was just under 10k with me being out of pocket 1200 (they did the oil change as well)
NOW...I know I've asked this a few times and...
Just getting this out of the way - I do not advocate this or would ever buy it.
However I have noted that when hauling a trailer It does seem alot more stable in a gooseneck or 5th wheel over a bumper pull.
But...yeah the set up above isn't anything I'd want to roll in lol
So apparently the shop I have it at marks up the transmission a bit lol
Geico MBI will cover the retail cost of the transmission +10%.
That being said I'm still going to be out of pocket, including the 250 deductible, 1080.00 out the door.
I've been told the total bill - $9500.00 wow...
D
You know...there is one major thing here that I sometimes don't take into account that Grumpaw kind of hit on and made the fault/failure analysis part of my brain kick me...we never really notice anyone doing the RIGHT thing. We only note the ones who are liable to be the reason for our wreck...
Hey Grumpaw, I wasn't really grouping everyone into the same category...sorry if you got that impression? That is unless you are one of the ones who overloads the trailer, has it squatting and acting as squirrely as an oak tree in the summer, and rolling in the fast lane. You guys don't sound or...
Jhbryaniv nailed it it .
I see too many folks hauling camper trailers / caravans on the interstate...in the FAST LANE...with nothing in the other lanes.
Common sense isn't a gene. And it sure as hell isn't common.
Plus one other thing...folks will get a camper that is near the max limit of...
So I asked this before on another thread....so I'll ask here. The work gets done.
What are the quality of parts that are being installed? Are they aftermarket and beefier generally? Are they Motorcraft and possibly compromised like the parts that came in the OEM transmission? What is the life...
