A 4X2 has suited me just fine for the last 20 years, especially where I live. When I asked the dealer about 4X2 availability, the response was that most customers want a 4X4 and the stock on hand reflected that.

4x2 Here. Got more bells and whistles than I could have on a 4x4. Plus I figured I'm in the south and I don't go off road so why do I need a 4x4.

I've owned 3 4wd trucks and only ever had to use 4wd once. We've had 1 inch of snow this winter so far lol. I do mow my parents property for them and it's kind of bowl shaped and can get slippery after a rain or in the morning when the grass is wet but decent all terrain tires have always gotten me out in 2wd. I would've happily paid for the locking rear but I didn't like the trucks that had them.

I got a 4X2
The 4X4s they had on the lot either didn't have all the options I wanted or were too pricey.
No snow here in the deep south
Over 30 yrs of recreational camping and 4 wheelin in the woods with Uncle Sam was enough for for me.

I wanted an FX4 originally.

But I found a lightly used 2wd Lariat for nearly $10k less.

With that amount in savings I can have my Ranger and buy an older FX4 that I won't feel so bad beating around on the trails with. So, around Xmas next year, I plan to begin the search for a nice older brother for my baby.

Otherwise, 2wd suits my daily needs just fine. My boys love it. The 12yr old has begun talking about making a Ranger his first car.

I own an AWD Escape, so I did not need a 4x4. My choice was a two wheel drive SuperCab XLT Sport. I want more of lowered sport truck and that fit perfectly as a good place to start. Something to play with and something that can haul most anything I will ask it to do. I love this thing!

Just checking out who else has the 4x2 Ranger and show our love. I was trading in my '16 Jeep Wrangler (manual) for a new truck so I started looking at the 4x4 - liked the FX4 package I test drove. Started the negotiations process - FX4 was going to be my Jeep + $5800 - the 4x4 sport 302A was Jeep + $5000. My bride and I really didn't want to part with a whole lot of cash. I was about to call it quits when I talked to my uncle, who owns a timber farm, about his F150 who said he went 4x2 and has only gotten it stuck twice. I had not thought about it and then realized that while I had shifted into 4 wheel mode in the jeep I never did anything that actually needed it. So I called the dealer and asked him how much for the Oxford white, 4x2, 302A, trailer and locking rear diff (this is something my uncle wishes he had). He said Jeep and $1500 and the rest is history.

There maybe somethings I won't be able to do - but I also live in Atlanta so when it snows here we all try and just say home.
For the little I have used 4x4 vehicles I went with a 4x2. When I go skiing if needed I will put chains on.

Beautiful S/Crew Mike, looks as though you raised the front, if so which lift kit did you use?

I have a 2WD ranger and very often drive on soft ground job sites. I do have a locking differential and that is worth EVERY penny; without it I would have gotten stuck several times, but stop and push the button and it just pulled right out of the hole.
