With Fords great reputation for quality I could see this causing all kinds of problems in the future .

I'm torn on this one and have to read it again a couple times to see if I missed anything.

It's basically a remote kill switch in case someone steals your vehicle. The only good thing I see is they'll reimburse you your insurance deductible if it does get stolen. You also have to have a special passcode to activate it and can give other family members the code. Other than that I think it should be an option and not a mandatory feature because we all know that nothing could ever go wrong and fail while you're driving or away on vacation.

Not just Ford, a lot of manufacturers are doing this. I read an article last week that was talking about the kill switches that most new vehicles have. Though it’s not a commonly acknowledged thing. The article was specifically talking about leased vehicles and how they’re being shut off if people miss payments.

Apparently over 2500 cases of people getting their vehicles “accidentally” shut off have already been reported. The non-named manufacturer(s) said it was a glitch in the software and shouldn’t have happened… It was on my work laptop, so I’ll have to go back in my history and see if I can find it again.

I think you're right that Onstar has had something similar.

I'll tell you one thing if this nanny BS keeps up I'll never buy a new vehicle again and will be looking for an older vehicle (pre kill switch) to purchase instead.

True but just an example. The state I lived in would confiscate a plumbers van and tools if he got too far behind. It made the news. Something like this would certainly not be off limits. Paid that off 30 years ago but the scar remains. 33% of my gross pay for child support for 1 child and another 30% + for taxes. Not much left over to live on.

I disconnected my TCU a few years ago. Without a modem, the vehicle's 'air-gapped': nothing in, nothing out. I only used the Ford app for a couple weeks after I got the truck, but I didn't see any benefit in exchanging my data to save a couple of bucks on accessories.
