They did this with the Lightning making it "reasonable" when they first launched it. We all know what happened the following years! 💰 Maybe it'll work but I still fell that Hybrids are the way to go right now and are really the best of both worlds. After driving that Camry last summer I'm 100% sold on them and THAT is what would get me to trade in my Ranger.

As a result, Ford pivoted its EV plans, but it's not giving up. The company's focus is on a new universal electric vehicle (UEV) platform built from the ground up with a "skunkworks" team in California. The first product will be a midsize EV pickup costing around $30,000, targeting profitability from the start.

This is reassuring.

"for example, incorporating 25% fewer fasteners throughout the vehicle."

Driving down the road and your mirror or fender flies off

In my opinion, it's the worst of both worlds. :) You get the maintenance requirements of an ICE, along with the battery concerns of a BEV. I do understand that for the majority of people, especially those who travel a lot, the hybrid is a better option.

We have both and it works perfect for us. The wife has a Model Y and I have the Ranger. The Y is our daily and the Ranger is used mainly for towing. I don't believe the technology is even close to having a BEV as a dedicated tow vehicle. It may come at some point, but maybe not in my lifetime. The only people I could see benefiting from a BEV truck is those who just use them for weekend runs to the home improvement stores.

Like you said everyone's needs are different. For me it be would be perfect because now that I'm retired I don't drive much. Last year I only put 6,200 miles on my Ranger and 1,250 of that was relocating back here from Arkansas. Also, IIRC most batteries are covered for 10 years. I don't see that as a negative unless you're young(er)going to keep it for life which not many do until they get up there in age. Even then the batteries will most likely still outlive (most) them. I would most likely buy a Camry because they've just about perfected the hybrid over the last 20+ years.
