Have the original headlights on my 2021 Ranger. This past week, when I turn off the truck and put the key in my purse and exit the vehicle shutting the driver's side door, the ding ding ding chime keeps going off and I notice my headlights are staying on longer than the usual courtesy lighting (you know, how it used to stay on just long enough for you to exit the truck and walk up your driveway, then they'd shut off).

I walked around the truck and double checked that all doors were shut and that the tailgate was shut, even opened each one and shut each one by one. Didn't resolve the issue. The ding ding chime only goes out once the headlights finally go out.

My new battery was only a year old this past August (in 2025).

Any ideas what else I should check?

Might check and see if the light switch is on auto or if it got moved to ON. Easy to bump when getting out.

If I bump mine or leave them on I get the reminder chime. I don't tend to use auto just turn them on when I need them.

I had it on the Auto setting. I just went out and double checked in settings that I still had the delay set to 20 seconds and it was. I read one trouble shooting tip say to turn the head light knob to Off then back to Auto and it should reset, so I'm going to try that.

Hi Val @paval3, have you figured out the problem?
I don't know if it's the beginning of an intermittent problem, but since I turned the headlight setting know to OFF then back to AUTO late yesterday, the ding ding chimes have stopped. BUT I could have swore before I had the chime problem start, that the headlights stayed on for those 20 seconds, now I have only parking lights staying on 20 seconds (no headlights). Am I going crazy, is that how it should be??

Not sure since I don't leave the switch on auto. I'm old school and just turn them on when I decide its time. :like:

I keep mine on auto and that's how mine do. Parking lights only for a short bit then all go off.

Thank you so much for that info! I just never noticed it before. I'm just glad it doesn't ding ding chime anymore, hope it lasts.
