Dude, I had heartburn it seemed all the time, always quick to grab an antacid. It got to the point where I developed an ulcer in my esophagus. Dr. put me on PPI's (like Prilosec). It was so nice not to have heartburn all day when I was on them. Then I got diagnosed with mild osteopenia, they said the PPI's were blocking calcium intake. When I tried stopping the PPI's, the heartburn came back with a vengeance. Then my Dr. put me on a schedule to slowly wean off PP's. It was so successful that I don't even need antacids anymore. It seems all those years of taking antacids, my body never had a chance to self-regulate the acid.
Try using apple cider vinegar. I've had stomach issues since my 20's and ACV helps a lot. It's not to much acid it's you don't have enough. I do keep a bottle of Omeprisol around just in case but rarely need them anymore. Just make sure you drink the ACV through a straw. It can damage the enamel of your teeth otherwise. I add 1 shot of it in water and use my plastic straw. lol

Yeah, ACV is good stuff. But I don't have acid issues anymore. My body can regulate the acid just fine, I was just interfering with it by always grabbing an antacid at the first sign of heartburn.

Dang, the east coast looks like it could get hit again this weekend, primarily Virginia with 8-10". From Myrtle Beach up through New England another snow storm is brewing. This followed by more freezing temps.

Miami’s 116 year old record low of 36 degrees set back in 1909 is in serious jeopardy on Sunday morning.

It'll be 75 here on Sunday. :tumbleweed:

I have a hiatal hernia and a section of my stomach is up in my chest. I couldn't live without PPIs. The acid burns your throat at night if you try to sleep laying flat and causes a pre cancerous condition without them. Better living through chemicals.

Umm, isn't that from the starting point of the kiddie/junior run? That's definitely not the angle from where my teenager broke a hole through the berm! It's completely the other side of your house! Admit it, the kiddie run was a bit more than you could handle!
I’m askeered to go on the big hill.

Sometimes the meds are necessary and that's nothing to mess around with. Annies father passed away back in the 80's from throat cancer caused by the acid reflux. They didn't have a lot the meds (PPIs) back then like they do now. I think Zantac was one if not the only one available then. I had that same problem back in '85 where every night I felt like someone had a blowtorch to my chest it burned so bad from the acid. Of course back then I was young and dumb and ate bad and drank a ton of Coke. I was addicted to it and would drink almost 2 liters (sometimes more) a day. I was on Zantac for several years before I could get off it and the burning stopped.

After doing the endoscopy they found 2 small ulcers forming and I had had to completely change my diet and haven't had Coke or coffee since nor fast food. I rarely get headaches (maybe 1-2/year) and I had migraines for over 2 weeks getting that crap out of my system. It really shows you how much caffeine (and reckless eating) affects your body. I'm not saint and will indulge in a few things from time to time but for the most part we both eat as clean as we can. It must be working because we both take zero meds and have great BP and lipid numbers.

We got about a half inch early this morning. Not even worth shoveling since it's supposed be back in the 40s by tomorrow and rain. 🙄 Enough to throw the studded wheel set on the fatty this morning. Hope all of you getting hit in the southeast and midwest are with power at least and hanging in!

Looks like fun Mel, I need to try one of those bikes. We have a ton of trails down here right outside our main gate that lead up to the mountains. I'm not sure if they rent them around here but we're heading up to Sedona in April and I know they have them there .

I've got my eye out looking for a good used side x side because we have a couple friends who have them and they're always out every week with them. They'll do day trips all the way down to Nogales, AZ which is about 40 miles from here.

I started out on this fat bike and in less than two years I added my full suspension enduro bike. Totally different bikes but I have ridden a lot of blue trails and picked my way through some blacks on the fatty! My intention was to get some exercise, scout some hunting areas and explore on logging roads, etc. Well that has turned into all that plus sending it down some fairly technical trails with the full squish bike. 😂 Not what I thought I would be doing starting in my 50s! The great news is getting on the bikes is the one form of exercise that never hurts or makes me sore. I sure get to see some great country on the trails. If you do get bikes go to a bike shop. A decent bike won't be cheap but you also don't have to break the bank. Norco, Trek, Otso and Specialized are brands to start with. Framed was shut down but I think their Alaskan Carbon might be in production again. I have the Framed Wolftrax Carbon which is similar but no longer in production. If I had to choose one bike forever I would look at Trek's full suspension fat bike if they still make it. There were others but I don't know if they are still around. Wow! That got long winded!!😂 My apologies!🤷🏻‍♂️

No, that was good info! I'm sure most bike shops won't tell you all the details and push you towards their higher end ones. I don't mind spending money on something as long as it's good quality and the extra money will benefit me somehow. I love being out in the woods and trails and have always had quads, motorcycles & snowmobiles so I get what you're saying about seeing some beautiful sights. I've been able to see things in the backwoods up in Northern Maine that the average person will never see. Came across a pack of moose in a ravine one time. There must of been a couple dozen down there and then a little farther down the trail was a huge bull moose standing in the trail. The were 5 of us on sleds and he just looked over at us, took his time and wondered into the woods. Pretty cool when you're looking at this huge animal 20 years in front of you and you could drive right under him he was so tall. Now I can see one of these bikes following me home one day. lol

I'm no bike mechanic but I do know what works and typically the mid range best value when it comes to components. Just like anything else there that sweet spot of quality and price. I'm always willing to help someone navigate that so please, hit me up with questions if anyone wants to explore this. On a similar note I start my new part time retirement job Friday working at a local gun shop and indoor range. Like the bikes I love to help new owners figure out what fits them the best literally and by purpose. I do tend to nerd out on bikes and guns!😂 But it's fun! Just like needing out over our Rangers, right?! 😎

I definitely will if/when I decide to get one. I know Annie won't want to ride in the trails so it'll give me something to do while she's still working the next 2 years. lol

Gun shop? That's not a job that's like getting a retirement COLA bonus!! I'd almost feel guilty taking their money and would want to pay them. 😂

Besides the cheap 10 speeds I had in the 80's and 90's, the first real bike I got was a used 1995 Trek road bike. It was very decent but not the best fit. I crashed it into a culvert and had to have a new front fork an wheel put on. I sold that and got a used custom built Soma. Damn does that bike feel just right. I also bought a new Trek mountain bike which is awesome, but those fatty's look interesting. Don't bike much, but when I do, a quality bike makes a world of difference.

A lot of bike rides here. Utah, Arizona, Colorado, British Columbia, just to name a few, some even in Europe. Our civic center, free for old farts, has interactive bike machines, I have been all over the place.
