Does anyone manually downshift in slow traffic, like in town or otherwise, to keep the transmission from up and down hunting?

When I'm in stop & go traffic I only use S mode. This keeps me in a lower gear and stops the transmission from hunting. If it's really bad traffic you can use S mode (pushing the side shifter button while in S) and manually shift to keep the shifts even tighter. I do this when going up (or down) steep grades.

Well, I guess you can teach an OLD DOG new tricks. I’ve had this truck five years next month and never used ”S” before. Tried that coming through town and filled her up with 93. Works like a champ, thanks again.
Now I’m wondering what else I don’t know.!!! 👀😳

Did you know that having a damper and using 303 Graphene can extend the life of you and your Ranger:question:  😆

Hmmm. May have to look into that. At 71 trips around the big red globe, I need all the help I can get. 😁👍. I think the extra zoomies in that nuke plant turned off some cells.

Does anybody but me think that was professionally installed in the exact center of that tire? What are the chances of that?

I'd hate to think someone would do this on purpose but I guess there are jerks out there that might do it. It's probably slim odds of that happening but I'd say it was a road pick up. Now go play the lottery and see how your luck is tonight. lol

Did someone mention manually downshifting?
I do that. The constant lugging until the trans decides to shift will get on my nerves. And since there is a quick and easy way around that, I stop it. I also do this on the last 3/4 of a mile to my house. It's about 25 - 30 mph, and a bit twisty and with a few level changes, I run the trans down to '5' and it doesn't give me that lugging feeling.

One more thing. Be careful of that screw. Usually that one right in the center is the one holding all the belts together, keeping them aligned. Mess with that and you're buying a new tire. It's true, I read this on a forum that one time.

Staying on topic, I manually downshift going down passes in Colorado so I don't have be hitting the brakes all time to keep from going too fast.
