Hey all,

So I have some Bilstein 5100s my garage is putting on for me. I was planning on having them install at the highest point, which would be a 2.5 inch level. However, I have some concern that the truck will look like it’s on “stilts” with the 265/70/17s I run. Has anyone run into a similar issue? I’ve seen some pics where it looks kinda silly with smaller tires but honestly they might’ve been the stock 255/65 so no idea. Starting to second guess my decision and think I should have them installed at 1.8” or lower so it doesn’t look like it’s floating above the tires.

I have run Bilsteins on my last two trucks. If you max it out your ride will get harsh because it’s just preloading the coils. I run 1.2 on my Ranger. Might want to consider the 1.8 mid setting. Just my two cents.

The Bilstein 5100s that I ordered for my truck last Friday afternoon came in today and will be installed Thursday morning and I am having the guys at Lone Star Conversions set the fronts at 1.8. Then they are going follow up the install with a front end alignment.

I am running the Rough Country 2.5 in Leveled struts and 265/70-17 Cooper Rugged Treks. If the Bilstein fronts had been available ( Covid craziness times) when I installed mine I would have went with them. My thoughts are this. If you are going to tow a lot and not max out the front suspension then I would set them at 1.8. If you don’t plan on towing anything heavy frequently the go 2.5. I tow all the time with no issues with the 2.5 in front. I would personally run mine at 2.5in regardless so I don’t rub in full compression situations. I have the 5100 shocks on the rear. If your ride level increases installing the fronts like mine did with the rears you will love them.

Do you have a pic of what that looks like?

Hey David, there’s actually a lot of threads related to that tire size but this one…

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/pics-of-265-70-17-tire.4748/post-72189

…has a lot of pictures and comments to help you get a sense of what it would be like.

I believe @AzScorpion had that size tire on his Sabre Ranger with a 2.5” RC Level Kit and it looked great. Plenty of other folks did as well.

In all honesty I wish I never did the level kit. Besides looks it added no real value and a little over a year later I took it off and went with Eiback coilovers which made a HUGE improvement! Now I had adjustability for the fronts and a way better ride all around on and off road. Yes it's more money but if you're going to keep the truck it's well worth the investment. It's the best mod you can add to your truck, besides a damper of course.

For comparison. Continental Terrain Contact AT's in 265/70x17 and 3/4" level.
