Has anyone installed an aftermarket trans cooler?
Not yet, but I am in the process of procuring all the bits and pieces, and will have most of what I need to begin in a week or so. I'll be looking to install a Transmission cooler up front. Will use PTFE hoses with AN-8 fittings. Still awaiting a transmission adapter that is in the mail, and a few other small parts.

I plan to attempt the task during my next scheduled oil change while I have the truck up on the lift.

Please keep us up to date and if you can tell me how you’re going to do it with what parts? Does the mustang have a cooler?

Looking around and Mishimoto has one listed for Ranger but it’s “universal” and some adaptation required and has no instructions and not a fan of hose clamps on trans lines.

I'm piece mealing the parts, but using high quality AN-8 PTFE hose and fittings. I already have a 30 row stacked cooler and bracket.

Still have to determine what to do with the current heat exchanger. It needs to stay at least temporarily to keep a DTC error from the electrical solenoid / t-stat, but it will not be used. I'm planning on bypassing the entire heat exchanger. Just a couple of lines from the transmission to the cooler up front.

I'll post more when I have a preliminary idea of just how to route everything.

Transmission is heated by coolant. You can by pass it, but it is also cooled by coolant. Double edged sword. Not sure if it is an electric thermostat or not. I know the mustang folks modify that part of it.
My understanding is that the Ranger Transmission coolant T-stat in the "Heat Exchanger" doesn't open until fluid temps hit 195F. And it is electrically controlled. If you unplug it, you'll see DTC error code.

Trannie Fluid flow is constant.

Here is the latest pice to arrive. The Transmisison coolant line adapter plate. They are bit proud of it at 89.98., but it is well built.
