Remember that the Mickey Thompson you are referring to is simply an All-Terrain. It's the same for the Firestone Destination XT. Now I haven't tested the tire above, but I have had the XT on 4 different vehicles and I have been impressed with the capabilities OffRoad and on the pavement. This includes wet and winter weather driving as well. How would the MR BAJA AT compare? Without a side by side comparison it would be hard to say that said it is still a heavy tire in the P Rated form. Perhaps there is a good reason, but who can say.
I have been impressed with the capabilities OffRoad and on the pavement with the MT AT and outstanding offroad. Check out the Toyota forums, all the Tacomas and many 4-runners run them heavily. For some reason the Ford people haven't caught up. A great tire made in America!

As a Nissan guy I know better than to go to a Toyota Forum lol.

Not at all. Coming from the OEM Hankooks, I too was worried about noise and like many AT tires, they did an excellent job of making sure that noise wouldn't become a deterrent. If there's any extra noise (I'm sure there's some), but I honestly have never noticed, and after the first 10 minutes on the road, I stopped trying to listen as it was a non-issue. The Tacoma guys use MT quite a bit.

I'm impressed they are made in the U.S.A and work great on and off-road. Off-road they are substantially better than the OEM Hankook's, which ride great on-road, marginal offroad.

The other factor that I spent a lot of time researching was weight. I see so many that buy the biggest, heaviest tire and rims they can find. I'm on the opposite end of unsprung mass. You want your wheels (tires and rims) the lightest - always. So I picked up a set of 17" KMC rims (26 lbs) and the #44lb MT tires. It's about as light as you can get, but you swear these MT's are twice the weight based on looks alone. They work great and aesthetically, they really improve the look of your truck, IMO.

I've had time on since Q1/2024 and wear has been fine.

Hey Lariat ..I can't thank you enough for responding. Like I stated when I started this thread, while I don't see me doing much off roading, I did want a tire that not only looked the part, and would be more than capable if I did yake them in the mud from time to time, while still be reasonably comfortable and relatively quiet on the road. What you've described, it seems my thinking is right. And you're right...the size I want to put on, 285/70R17 116t, are 48#s and are lighter than the 265/70-17 6 ply Generals (@54#s)that are on my truck now.
Thanks again for the info.

Keep in mind that there are different tires available that will still meet your needs. If you're settled on this particular tire then go for it.

I’ve been researching these tires in that size and the M/T website says that the P rated tires that are 48# Do Not have the extra sidewall protection which is only in the LT that are quite a lot heavier.

I run BFG KO2 in 265/70/17 C rated and they are 48# each. I am running them on Bronco Sasquatch wheels which are 35# Vs 28# for the aluminum Sport wheels that the truck came with.

I run out in the socal desert and sometimes you just can’t get around that rock garden. I was hoping the M/T P rated had the fancy sidewall compounds but they don’t and last thing I want to deal with is a sliced sidewall while aired down because I didn’t get a beefy enough tire.

I also really don’t want to add another 10# with KO3’s in the 285/70/17

I’m thinking about going with the Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro. The E load are 49# and they seem to get good reviews and are also made in the USA.

The KO2’s are noisy as hell and they only have 22k miles on them. They are supposed to be a 50k mile tire but I’ll be lucky to get 35k out of them before they are toast.

If anyone has used the Mickey Thompson P rated in socal desert please tell us how they faired.

The K03 really fixed everything I didn't like about the K02. I put the K02 285/70/17 on my Tremor at 10k miles then around 40k miles I swapped them for the K03 and man, they are very quiet, handle wet roads better and haven't had issues off-road. I also tow with them a 4500lb travel trailer. With about 25k miles on them the wear is excellent but I also changed the K02 out early but they seem to have better wear than the k02. I can't say enough good things about the K03.

Only downside is the weight cost me 1-2mpg but worth it in the end.

The KO2s on my Jeep(285/70/17)I could not get balanced,so I ditched them.Even road forcing wouldn't get the tiny vibe out out at 60-65 mph.It was between the MTs or Wildpeaks, end up with the Wildpeaks.
