Awesome! Right after I "invested" in ancient thumb drive technology. What a WASTE!! :headbang::LOL: Pretty cool! Seems like the right (obvious) direction for Ford. I like it!

No thanks. This should assume "Opt Out", unless the truck owner approves of it by 'Opting In".

All I can think of is all the issues folks had with the Windows 10 updates... except this will be in your truck when you could likely be out in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for the post, Phil. Glad to see that Ford will have this capability for new models. It will be a lot more convenient than setting up an appointment and taking your car/truck to the dealer.

Excellent news. It will be a hard to accept by some folks but this is the way product updates are being delivered by many manufacturers, including some pretty major car companies.

How is this different than the Sync 3 updates received now? Also, I assume tha Maps are being updated, is that true?
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,

If you read post #7, I think this is supposed to address the need to connect to WiFi...You will get updates over wireless phone network...

honestly I'm all for this. My wife's car gets OTA updates every few weeks and it's awesome. vehicles are not just mechanical anymore and software can have bugs. I'd rather get update automatically then have to go to a dealer to get it done

Even connected to WiFi I don’t get updates.
I don't get updates either, even when connected to my home wifi. I keep getting this pop-up message asking me to connect in order to finish updating.... I'm going to try downloading the USB file and running it to see if the latest version clears this up.

For those asking about how is this different than just Sync 3 WiFi updating... there are two components that are different.

1) As others have said, this will be done via cell data instead of WiFi. Big Deal.
2) Notice the "bumper to bumper OTAs for nearly all vehicle computer modules" statement. This is the big difference. This means that if there's rough shifts on the 10R transmission that have been refined via additional engineering, your truck will get that update. This means that if they add Climate Control to the right cluster screen for MY20 because too many people complained that it was missing, then your MY19 will get it too (assuming no hardware changes and it's just a software change). The downside might be that all of the ForScan mods that people do to customize it, will end up getting undone as it updates to the latest factory setting.
