I thot that comment was aimed at me!!! I still think my reply tad funny!

Nope! But I did down my fair share of Gaviscon, and GasX!

I still have PTSD over i though... keep wondering when the nightmare will return. Wife advises me to unload it while it still running great. But I have gone too far down the rabbit hole! Her fav vehicle is still the 2005 Ranger. She won't let me sell it.

Really Chris, I hope it works out well for you. I <<hate>> dealerships!
I at times regret selling my 2004 Saab - cast iron block, no egr, no variable cams, no cylinder de-activation, no DI, no BMS, no stop/start, no $1200 BLIS tail lights. All that modern stuff is great until it breaks then you are screwed.

@dtech - I understand your sentiment completely, however, with a 2004 Saab you'd be stuck with; No OEM

Sorry I had to.

How far is the nearest donut shop?
Almost across the street, so it likely was more serious a drive. Maybe for pizza or something.

So on the 8 mile drive to the donut/pizza shop, the transmission mechanic did notice shifting issues. Service writer gave me a mini update just now that it may be an issue with C or E clutches (?), but he's not sure what those issues may be. I'm told there might be a more precise and definitive answer today or tomorrow.

So this isn't just paranoia or all in my head. Something may actually be amiss.

Any thoughts from you knowledgeable people are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like they’re on the trail. See what they come back with. Could be several things going on due to a snowball effect.

Something has been amiss in every 10R80 transmission unit that Ford has in built and installed most all Rangers. Design is fine I think, but parts are cheap / missing, and fluid most likely compromised, I read where a Ford engineer working on the 10R80 project warned his management team that the fluid was low / missing key additives. He predicted massive volumes of failures. Management ignored him,... and here we are. Ford should simply recall them all...but they won't.... for the same reasons that they took all the short cuts.

And it is not just Ford. Every recent Mazda CX-5 sold in the USA is mandated 0w-20 oil weight. Everywhere else in the world Mazda recommends 5W-30. My oil cap even states 5w-30! Guess what I am using in it.... Hint! it ain't 0w-20.

So....
Got to pick up my truck.
Transmission tech says he felt the shudder at take-off, the thunk at starting and stopping, and shift issues. Apparently has done the TSB and found pressures and things not conducive to a healthy transmission. Parts are supposedly ordered for a complete rebuild as well as driveline repairs.

I can drive it until the parts come in, approximately 7 days. That's the good news.

Bad news is the tech is about 3 weeks deep already in scheduled repairs. It's gonna be interesting to see how all this will play out and how long it will take.

But ultimately it's all gonna be addressed and I will pray it comes out as it should have from the beginning.

It could have been much worse. Out of warranty.

I suspect that they will not really know what is the issue until they open it up and inspect it.

Glad they didn’t rip it apart and leave you hanging. Hopefully it gets handled properly and no hiccups.

Update:
I spoke with service writer today and it seems all the parts are in for my repair.

As I understand it there's going to be a rebuild of my existing transmission as opposed of replacement with a remanufactured or new transmission. CDF drum parts were mentioned. I am also getting a new driveshaft and accompanying parts!

Holy cow!!!

So I'm supposed to get a call this coming week to schedule drop off. I'm told the whole repair/replace should take 5-ish days assuming there are no hiccups once they get inside the transmission. Really looking forward to seeing all this done and over with.

I am not surprised by the amount of damage. I am mildly surprised that Ford is now stepping up. I am disappointed that Ford isn't calling for a recall of all 10R80 transmissions that they KNOW are adversely affected. There is mounting evidence that Ford knew that the 10R80 was suspect. They gambled. It is yet to be determined (from a corporate cost analysis) if that gamble pays off for Ford.

I know what the cost to Ford will be if they lose that bet, but the aggregate damage (financial and personal cost to each buyer multiplied by the number of buyers) is FAR greater than the expense that Ford should incur to makes things right.

Ford deserves to lose that gamble. But I will be surprised if they do.

I get to drop off the truck next Tuesday the 27th with the hopes of it being done that following Saturday.
I'm excited!

Are people having luck with Ford ESP PremiumCare covering this on trucks outside of the factory warranty range?
