I have noticed a minor, annoyance of a resonating type vibration 45-58 mph while cruising under slight load (where I spend most of my time driving) my truck. Noticed it around 3K miles, now at 6k. Just curious if anyone else has the same issue. It is very slight, I can hear it more so than feel it and man my ears hone right in on it. I know too many times vibrations are considered "normal", "within tolerances" etc. and most manufacturers/ dealers don't hunt to deep into solving them as they can sell the "normal characteristic" bs... Will probably eventually have it looked at, waiting to see if gets any worse...

Hi 2.7

What is your vehicle configuration? Lifted? Bigger Tires, Exhaust or Stock..? Do you have a sense if it is related to wheel speed or engine?
Can you hold the speed and select another gear and assess the effect? Windows up or windows down...maybe driver side only?

Almost impossible to assess without more info, including your best guess of the excitation source..Road, Tires, Driveline or Engine. Exhaust.

That's the golden speed zone for tire imbalance to show up...

Hi 2.7

Can you help by answering the other questions on your Stock vehicle.

Vibrations like this are sometimes a resonance condition, especially when it is such a narrow band like you describe.

I picked up a vibration after I rotated my wheels at 5k. Immediately wrote it off as wheel balance and sure enough after having them rebalanced it disappeared.

NTB did the work and the service writer stressed that the front end needs an alignment because the factory straps these trucks down so tight that it changes the factory alignment......ok.
Next, after I pick the truck up he complains that my wheels being unbalanced is most likely due to my Bridgestone tires.....ok.

That will be my last visit.

Hi Kieefer,

LOL...if strapping down the vehicle changes alignment, Then every Truck will need alignment before it gets to the customer. I would suspect he is also selling lake front property in Florida too. Glad you are taking your business elsewhere.

Just to let Folks know, at Ford, we have a rail car simulator and all new vehicles are tested on this simulator. This includes the rail car coupling test that jars the stuffing out of a truck. If alignment were to change, post test which simulates a trip between New Jersey to Los Angeles over some of the worst rail tracks in the country , the design would be modified to fix the problem long before the first vehicle is sold to a customer. We also do a Semi Haulaway test as well. Your truck was well tested long before the truck was in production.

Guy is a a scam artist in my opinion.

One other “issue” I have.
When wheels are balanced I would think all the weights should be taken off, then balanced, it’s possible they were not properly balanced the first time.
Well, NTB just added weights.

Too disgusted to take it back.

I was a tech during the Firestone recall. I ALWAYS took the weights off, balanced, added the weights and rechecked to make sure it zeroed out. I would say 1/2 the techs didn't remove the weights, and I was in a very small % who rechecked after adding weights. Sad.....

No mods at all. I feel like it's speed related, but I'm not ruling out a load/rpm. I am going to rotate my tires when I get a spare moment as I'm at 6k miles. It doesn't feel like a "lash" issue, ring gear/pinion, or slip yoke. I would guess more along the lines of driveshaft, but I want to rule out a wheel/tire issue first.

Hi 2.7

Okay, but remember that driveshaft frequencies are the axle ratio times the wheel speed (divide wheel rpm by 60 to get wheel generated frequency) so there is quite a difference in frequency that you might notice. Maybe that would help you isolate your suspected excitation mode. Statically you can inspect the driveshafts to see if a balance weight has been thrown.

By the way...You can quote engine rpm in frequency by dividing by 60. Example a 600 rpm idle is a 10hz frequency... You cannot hear 10hz, but you can sure feel it through the seat or steering wheel if large in amplitude.

I have the same issue with my truck it starts shaking at 80 and stops at 90 and it’s bad they told me it was nothing they could do and that it was just the characteristics of the truck ristics of the truck they tried five times to fix it
