Hello everyone,
When I got my 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat, it had only the 4 pin trailer connecter on it. I have recently purchased a camp trailer and the dealership had to install a 7 pin trailer brake system on the truck and it is blue tooth operated ( which has had nothing but issues ). Can I have a trailer brake controller with 7 pins installed on my truck that does not work on blue tooth technology?
Thank you all in advance for any and all replies and help, and lets all have a fun and safe 2025

Here is the 7/4 pin Ford connector:

Ford wiring harness for the trailer connector:

Ford Trailer Brake Controller Kit:

These parts are the parts that I used to add the 7 pin connector and brake controller to my Ranger.

Hi
Thank you I check out each link you sent and the only one that says it does not fit my ranger is
Trailer Brake Control Towing Pack 2 - Ford (VKB3Z2C006A)
how would I go about installing that part?

That is an error, it does fit 2019 Rangers. That is the one I used for my 2019. The kit comes with instructions. It is a somewhat difficult install, but many on here (including myself) have installed it.

Does that wiring harness plug into all the parking sensors or something? What is all that?

Good luck finding the Ford branded TBC is has been discontinued, you may get lucky and still find one but it’s doubtful.

Yes, it replaces a wiring harness on your truck that has the sensors in the bumper and the license plate bulb sockets and the 4 pin connector. You remove your old harness and replace it with this one.

It looks like the same front harness, what's different? Extra plug for the lumen controller?

I am not sure what you mean by front harness.

The Lumen and Redarc controllers are inside the cab, this harness is under the truck at the rear. The Ford TBC kit contains the harness to connect the Lumen, Redarc, and the third brake light (CHMS) connections inside the truck.

I guess I'm confused, it's arriving today I'm sure it'll make more sense when it's in hand.

If you're towing, I figured it would be replacing the front harness not the rear that's staring at the trailer the whole time ??‍♂

I haven't done much towing but this is supposed to be THE kit so I'm snapping one up before they disappear

@RangerBill has the parts list spot-on in post #2.

I had to buy a new rear bumper as well as my Ranger didn't come with the tow package and thus, didn't have the 2-inch receiver. I also had to buy a new rear trim panel b/c the clips broke when removing to do the bumper swap-out. Even with that I was amazed how "easily" that part of the install went. The only difficulty there was taking time to carefully swap out the harness (which I did while having the bumper off and being swapped out). If you can access the harness connectors with the bumper on, then it will be a breeze. But not sure that's possible....

It was the TBC controller kit install that was a PIA. Took me several hours with the worst part being the connector hook-up at the CHMSL (third brake light).

Edited to add: And the blue and yellow wires you have to hook into up on the firewall/driver side is also a PIA. Unlike the video (below), I used Posi-Lock connectors.

Bottom line, OP, read through the various directions (especially the TBC kit), check out some videos on-line, and go slow. I'm really pleased how my install went. I'm sure yours will go fine, as well.

Edited to add: I used this video for the TBC:

The video neglects to mention the "pins issue" for the CHMSL connector (you have to pick the correct connector (the kit provides two choices) and then ensure the pins are fully seated in order for the connector to work). I believe there are several threads here on Ranger5G about this pin issue.

You don't have to remove the bumper.

I was looking for it as well, thought maybe Tasca had some New Old Stock access and while their website claims they had 60+ in stock, I got an email (after they charged my card) that the item was on backorder. It's a discontinued part # so I'm thinking they'll never get one, just 'borrow' my money for a couple weeks.
