What do I need to do in forscan to adjust for a larger battery?

I have a 2020 Ranger xlt sport 4x4 and my battery was showing low so I ended up getting a larger interstate h7 (94r) agm 850 CCA 1000 CA 80 ah since it’s the same one the 2020 lariat takes. I decided to go bigger since I have 4 sets of light pods and like to keep them on longer when I’m camping. After install I did a bms reset but I noticed the voltage would fluctuate so I began making adjustments on forscan. I came across the tab for battery type and I saw on the drop down it doesn’t have my battery type. How do I go making that adjustment? Do I choose whatever is closest to my battery? I have the bms set to 90% instead of the 75% it was at. I see posts where people say just pop in and wait 8hrs but that didn’t work for me.

I would choose an H7 battery closest to your new battery's specs. My 2019 Ranger battery setting in the BCM didn't match the original factory specs either.

You didn’t have to change your tray size? I remember someone saying on here they did the same thing and the larger battery wouldn’t fit the XLT tray and had to order the Lariat sized for it to fit. I got the same rig as you and at some point soon will need to put in a new one. If I can go bigger without a tray swap that would be awesome!

The trays are all the same, but the battery blanket is a different size. So you either have to cut it to allow it to wrap or replace it for the H7 size.

Where can I see what the parameters are for battery settings? I don’t have forscan, I’m thinking of getting it.

I run two batteries in parallel to power accessories, and I’m wondering if there’s a better setting I can obtain.

You can view this with any scan tool, but Forscan is the only thing that will allow you to adjust the setting as all other scan tools will only allow (view) of the PID

I don’t have a tool of any kind yet. I just want to know what’s able to be changed and to what.

Yeah I saw this wiki post but it says nothing about battery replacement/size. Is there not a resource that unpacks all of what Forscan can do?

It varies by year and model as to what can be altered, the majority of them are posted in the Wiki thread but as far as battery size goes it only adjusts a small percentage from the XL/XLT size to the Lariat and the other battery related is to raise the SOC target from 70/75 % factory to a higher target , I set mine to 90% and this for me is perfect as it is just enough to push it out of the 12.2 / 12.4 voltage range at idle.
Yes that Wiki needs to be updated to a full list as there are some of the F150 list in the Excell spreadsheet that will also work for the Ranger, but if you look at the F150 sheet it will give you good idea of everything that can be possibly changed with some of the items not transferring to the Ranger as working.
What the F150 spreadsheet is, it’s a breakdown of the As-Built files and what all the Hex Data lines are, the Ranger is mostly the exact replication of that sheet if the function or feature is also available.

What’s the advantage of a 90 vs 75% SOC?

It will result in a battery that is more fully charged and when the truck is shut off, a higher battery resting voltage that will minimize sulfation of the battery. Also cuts down on accessories being shut down due to low battery state of charge.

Thanks I read another post about the BMS and think that the little fuel savings it provides is far outweighed by improved battery health given my preferences if I disconnect it.

Rather than disconnecting the BMS sensor, just change the charge level to 90% or 95% using Forscan. That is what I did (changed to 95% on mine).

I’m a complete noob to Forscan is one reason. If disconnecting the BMS works just as good then why not?
