My transmission has been shifting hard, took it to the local "small town" dealer and they cleaned the valve body and did a relearn on the transmission. That still didn't fix it. Took it to a bigger dealer and told me that I need a new CDF drum. Dumb question as I am not mechanically inclined...When they replace the drum, do they fill up with new transmissioin fluid?

Transmission gets removed from vehicle and pretty much totally disassembled to repair the CDF drum so yes it gets the fluid replaced.

How has yours been doing with the new transmission?

Flawlessly. 700+ miles on it with 4 heavy (6k lbs) tows so far and very pleased with the outcome. My shifting issues were subtle but noticeable in the 3-5 range and now you really have to pay attention to detect the shifts. As far as I’m concerned the problem is solved.

Hate to tell you but the CDF drum isn't necessarily going to immunize you from problems.

My 23' Tremor has that drum from get go, it was built in May of 23' and it still shit the bed in under 4k miles.

They're taking care of it under warranty but something else is going on besides the drum, even when you have the new one. My guess would be the valve body.

Anybody that thinks that's the end all to the 10R80 issues, there's at least 3 people in this thread that think the CDF is the source of their woes

It may very well be, I'm not saying don't get it updated, especially if you can do it under warranty. Just saying don't skip home thinking that'll keep you safe from any other problems from that point forward.

Still have to be damn diligent about maintenance and be a good bit lucky with these.

Well mine apparently was the CDF drum because the reflash and a valve body replacement didn’t cure the problem. So my new transmission built in 06/24 has the updated CDF drum ( known problem addressed), updated outer shell/trash can ( known problem addressed) and the latest version of the valve body.
Also if anyone is getting the TSB warranty done the valve body is addressed before the CDF drum is dealt with. Of course there’s always something else that can show up but having the known issues dealt with gives me a pretty good level of confidence. Mine will be well maintained not because it’s a problem area but because that’s how I treat the rest of the vehicle also. Time will tell.

My dealership is replacing the CDF drum this week. Ford bypassed replacing the valve body and reflash. I was shocked but I’ll take it. The dealership is small and has several in the shop for the CDF replacement, mine was the first that Ford told them to just replace the drum.

Read into that as you will.

2022 with 28k miles but I’ve had hard shifts since I bought it. Dealership wouldn’t even look at it until the TSB came out.

Interesting that they’re doing the CDF drum replacement and not replacing the transmission under the low time in service option that’s available under the TSB. You may want to ask them about it

I’m at 32,800-miles on the odometer and am awaiting a new transmission courtesy of Ford after having the TSB done. According to the transmission tech at the dealership (so take it for what it’s worth) if they had went down the path of rebuilding my transmission, the CDF drum would have been the updated drum along with new parts. As Ford approved the low time in service option for my transmission per the TSB, I don’t have to have the rebuild done.
At least they don't sound like Mary Barra at GM, or the techies at GM,
>>> " there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, we know, we built it, you didn't. You don't know what you are talking about!"
