I met an older couple a few weeks ago who are moving to FL to be closer to family. They're selling most of the contents of their house and have a brand new assembled inversion table. It's a Health Gear HGI6.9 they bought about a year or so ago from Sam's Club and paid for the white glove assembly which was over $200 for everything.

I've always heard they were great for your back and stretching out your spine but have never been on one. I've had a bad back for years, nothing serious but I'll occasionally get a pinched nerve or slip a disc and get sciatic pain. I usually get relief by hanging from a beam or something similar and thought one of these would be very handy. Is this something that's worth owning and do you use it often? Any recommendations on using one...Do's and Don'ts besides the obvious of not hanging vertically for to long with blood rushing to your head. ? Plus I can't beat the price of only $50.

I threw out my back last week and I had previously been thinking about an inversion table. Apparently, I have 2 bulged disks and some arthritis back there. The VA started me on physical therapy, but I'm guessing that it's heading towards surgery at this point. I've heard good things about these tables, so I'd be interested how you think it works for you.

This was the second time I threw my back out in 10 years.. This time was a bit worse as my family was out of town and I had to wait to be found in my driveway.

Wow that must of been scary being out there waiting for someone to come by! I'd try and avoid surgery at all cost but I know sometimes it's necessary.

I've thrown mine out several times over the years and most times it's not from lifting anything heavy just moving wrong. One time I was bending over to grab a log to throw in the stove and I pinched it and another was just bending down to grab something from the lower draw from my desk. The pain is excruciating until you can "pop" it back into place.

You'd think working and being on ladders for 42 years I'd have done it there but nope, it just happens at the weirdest times. I only knew one person who had one but that was years ago when I lived back in MA. He swore by it and him and his wife used it all the time. For the price (and being brand new) I'm thinking of just getting it and trying it out.

Can’t go wrong at $50. Mrs. Geezer used one for a few years to help with hips that eventually got replaced.
It did help.

My dad had back surgery last year and he said it was the best thing he did for his back. I'm not exactly sure what he had/had done at this point, but I'm sure 30 years of flying fighters has done a number on his back.

Both times I threw out my back, I really wasn't doing anything. The first time, I wanted to look at something in the engine bay of my STi. Walked over and just started to lean over and I was dropped. This time, I was washing wheels so I could AutoX the next day... One of our cameras caught it all.

Try that sucker out! You seem like you're in the same position as me on if it will help or not.

I have the top end Teeter one (LX9) and use it a few times a week.

I have a compresed neck vertebra from a motorcycle accident 46 years ago znd 2 degenerated discs in my low back.

5 to 10 minutes at about 60-70 degrees works wonders.

iIt took me a few times before I fully got used to it, but now it's no big deal. I bought the extra pressure point ball things that slot in but have never used them.

For $50, get it. =)

Yeah that's how it always seems to happen. You're just doing something routine and bam, it hits and drops you instantly. I've talked to many who've had surgery with mixed feelings about it. But everyones situation is different and if it's that bad I'd get it.

That's what I thought for $50 that's one chiropractic visit. Good to know it does help. Thanks!

Glad to hear it works for you. I figured starting slow at 2-3 minutes at about 20 degrees would be good. Then increase the time and degrees (it has 20,40,60 & 90 settings) until I'm upside down and my face is red like a tomato...err I mean like Soupie. ? ?

I know it's only $50 but that's my monthly Graphene allowance. :giggle:

At $50 bucks you can't go wrong if you have the space for it. But I cannot express how valuable an experienced qualified chiropractor can be. The old lore that chiropractors are quacks and just keep you coming back to make more money is BS. I had long term mid back pain, went through 3 chiropractors, finally found one who knew their shit, and my back pain is a non-issue. I almost never even have headaches anymore.
YMMV

I own and use a Teeter, and back problems ceased. I don't spend hours on it but 15 minutes does the job. When first starting out 20- degrees seems excessive. You can't lose for $50.

I can't speak to the inversion thing other than Dale Cooper used one and he seemed to know what's up. get it...what's up. But I do these two routines every morning before lifting and it has helped so much. The lacrosse ball/glute part in particular disappears back pain in minutes. Even if your not lifting doing something like this in the morning is going to be very beneficial especially as we age and avoid the types of spontaneous injury like @yamahaSHO had in his video.

Yes I agree with using a good chiropractor. I had a really great one back in MA that I saw regularly and he'd give his patients that didn't have insurance special deals. You could go once a week for a month for $100 or twice a week for a month for $150. He was there at 7am so there were times I could go right before going to work.

That came in helpful the day I threw my back out bending down for that log. I could barely walk and was in pain just trying to drive there but he adjusted me and was good as new. You have to have a lot of trust when they're adjusting you especially your neck. That part always freaked me out!

Stretching is really good for you and that was something my chiropractor always stressed to me. I'll admit I was really bad at keeping up on it and it's one of those things you know you should do every morning but never do. Even now I'll try and do several stretches in the morning, especially where you bend forward and touch the floor with your hands. It's great for the back and legs and when I was doing it regularly I could palm the floor.

Yeah I was the same way. Because I would only occasionally do it, I'd pull up a warmup vid and follow along and it added so much time. But once I kept it up and memorized it, it really only takes like 15 minutes to bang through it.

Odd thing I noticed was some mornings it was pretty uncomfortable and other mornings I would feel nothing like I had already done it. It was completely random too. It got me thinking how it could be caused by a bad nights sleep, stress or bad dreams even. You could start your day with a rough mental state, which in turn tenses your muscles up and as a result injure yourself physically.
