Rangers built after 08/22 have the updated CDF drum so yours should have it. So you have that going for you. There’s a TSB out for shift complaints which for your build would involve reflashing the transmission and then valve body cleaning or replacement. BUT with your mods ( lift, tires, tune) Ford may or may not be willing to address it.

I get the apprehension that the OP is young, but judging by his ability to convey himself verbally and understandably lends him credibility in my eyes. He seems to know a thing or two about what the hell he's talking about.

Automotive life truth: when people build a rig like this, longevity is the last thing in their mind. It needs to be.. or else they'll be in for a bad time.

People build rigs like that for fun.. not to live forever... they know it won't and they're fine with that.. when you have that amount of money you don't care how long your shit lasts.. needing to buy something new quickly won't be the cause of any financial concern because they have the money to waste.

If your dead set on longevity though.. spend a few thousand on re-gearing. The tranny will thank you. Somewhere around a 4.56 or 4.88 gearset will bring your final-drive ratio somewhere around stock. You won't be working the turbo as hard, thereby the motor as hard.. fuel efficiency will be greatly improved.. which is as important to 50 year olds as it is people under 20..

You've built what wouldn't be considered reasonable by any stretch of the word.. it's time to embrace that fact and live the life.

Well, the lift kit I went with relocates the front differential aswell as the driveshaft angle. So the geometry isn’t terrible. However yes, they will still wear quick.

As for money, I work hard to achieve my goals. Working, saving, investing, and putting my fun money toward my truck. My parents paid for 1/2 of my truck and i’ve got to pay the insurance bill and everything else, as I should. I’m fortunate that they had the love and care to pay for what they did.

Here’s the CV angle. Ignore the grease. I recently replaced the boot and refilled it.

That looks decent enough I suppose, but you got driveshafts too.

Actually I'm too old to even remember wtf this thread was about.
Ima go back to the frontier forums for now.

I didn’t really make a post to get joked about. I was trying to ask actual questions. ??
This is a very tough and caring crowd. Funny you have an 8" lift and say "Very Stock Ranger" at the bottom of your post
Looked like you made a joke on yourself!

I don't even consider my truck to be stock! For gosh sakes, I've removed the front air dam, added the tailgate damper, and the biggest mod of all has been the tailgate letters. Whew! That's a lot of modding. /s

Leave your truck stock. Do regular maintenance, repair things when needed and correctly. That will make any car last for years to come. Sometimes alternators ,ACs, and nowadays transmissions just blow up. Luck of the draw Sometimes

But leave it alone, stock and regular maintenance is the best thing for any car.
AGREED!!

I am looking for recommendations on performance modifications for the long run. I know that the 10R80 is a transmission that has a lot of problems. I know multiple people who have already had their transmission replaced at the 120-150k mile mark. I have ~12,000 miles on my 23' Ranger and want to make this vehicle last. I've done a lot of 'look at me' upgrades and I think now it's time to calm down on that.

I recently installed a BDS 8" lift and 35's on the truck, and am not sure if this is going to put any added stress on the transmission or any other drive components. --- Going down the highway at 75 it does not like to shift into 10th gear. Any ideas with this?

I've already gone through trouble with rough shifting, transmission fluid overflowing, and more. However, some of that has been self induced from my driving style of being 17. The first year of owning the truck I was pretty rough on it, but now I believe i've matured enough and want to focus on the longevity of my vehicle; while still focusing on performance enhancements.

I've considered getting the ford performance tune package to optimize the shifting patterns and hopefully reduce the stress on the transmission. I would also like to install a transmission temperature gauge, as I do a lot of highway towing a large trailer for work. I don't want to push the truck to its limits, but I want some ideas that will make it both still fun to drive and and

Things like a cold air intake I have considered aswell, and I want to get some opinions on how this improves efficience and power on the rangers. Is it worth it, are the effects really noticeable? Roush, K&N, what are your thoughts?

Side Note:
I am not sure if anyone reading this would remember, but I previously posted about me hitting a rock and smashing my transmission pan and me crying; being a little bitch about it. I got that handled... no more worries. I got it fixed after ford denied my warranty, for rightful reasons... lol. Heres the link to that forum post.

Comparison of when I first bought the truck and now.

Injen PF9071WB - CAI + Flowmaster 717909 FlowFX Cat-Back Exhaust System. No special tune. Makes big difference in power. Sounds lovely. I wrapped the exhaust system stem to stern with fiberglass wrap, painted the whole thing with hi temp brush on silver paint, muffler delete. Some pple say the CAI brings more dirt into engine. I see zero dust inside my intake tube after 10,000 miles. Feels like the motor makes more power with less pushing on the gas peddle.

Pretty sure I saw your post on Reddit awhile back. I'm sorry if you expected anything better here. It's mainly a bunch of old heads circle-jerking their mindless age-based superiority 9 times out of 10. The lead paint generation really poisons this forum with their Facebook humor, but thankfully there's a few people that actually dish out some decent advice. If it helps, I picture most people here posting minion memes outside of this forum and having a tenuous grasp of smartphones.

I admire your goals on trying to focus on reliability instead of mods. However, I have to say that at 17, you really should be driving around something much cheaper and not wasting money on arguably useless mods. I'm sure you know this already, but if you haul things - lifting your truck actually makes it harder to actually use the bed.

If you insist on keeping your money pit, the best thing you can do for longevity is to abandon the lift and tires as well as keep up with regular maintenance imo. Cold air intakes provide minimal gains. The performance pack is solid and definitely helps with shifting, but then you're expected to run 91 octane minimum adding even more costs for what is presumably your daily driver. I can't speak on the other tunes. At the end of the day though, most everything you've done and will do is just throwing money away.

Finally, I hope you didn't do any of these mods with loans like some people I knew who did at your age...

r u in the Denver area ? I returned to DIA from a trip last Friday , met a friend for lunch then headed to i-70 westbound, bad mistake traffic on I 70 was horrid, took an extra 2 hrs to back to grand junction, pleasant reminder why I moved from Denver after 35 yrs living there , and I swear that new gas formulation made the car run less smooth.

Truck looks awesome btw. A bit unrelated to your post, but the BDS lift you have is the 6" one, right? Was 8" a typo? How do you like the ride? To fit the 35s after that lift did the crash bars still need to be removed / honeycomb stuff behind liner need to come out?

I've heard catch cans are good for engine longevity btw, to add maybe one nugget of info to your original question. Though, not sure what others think about them.

Thanks.

Denver area, yes . . .

I don't notice much difference in how the truck runs, it is probably because I am worried more about the tranny and when it is going to just decide it has had enough . . .

We came from south florida (lived there ~13 years), so the denver area doesn't seem crowded to me. It is all relative though as GJ, Fruita etc is so empty. At one point the population of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties was more than the population of the entire state of Colorado . . .

Having said that, We drove out west on 70 a couple weeks ago (memorial day weekend) we left mid day on thursday. traffic wasn't to bad westbound. but compared to out of GJ north towards Dinosaur 70 was misery. lol
