Not to add insult to injury but, how's your tranny? I too am hearing some strange noise after I turn off my truck, step out and close the door...there's moving sound in the dash for a few seconds then stops...if I open the door and close it, the sound will repeat...does this mean I'm in for another round of robbery courtesy of Ford?
Thankfully everything under the hood on my truck purrs like a kitten :)

I have the extended warranty should something else go wrong.

Is your dash sound the actuator that opens the recirc door? I think it opens when the truck is off to let the A/C air out (dry out to prevent mildew)?

How many miles on yours?
38k miles, 3 years 2 months old.

My extended warranty is through 6 years, 75k miles. I will probably trade in at that time.

My 2022 clicks very lightly occasionally. It is moving and working so I am not worried.
My 2022 has always had a light click. I'm under 6k miles on it, currently. If it does fail, I'll either replace myself and keep it, or warranty and get rid of it.

I am on my 3rd recall on airbags for my 4G. You would think that they could get it right!
BTW, I took a look into the passenger airbag area after the 2nd replacement in an effort to stop the rattles... and found that the wiring was no longer secured - all loose and connections left dangling, hence the rattle trap.

This is everyone's concern after a dash removal repair ?

I'll report back how mine goes.

I replaced my a/c box a month and a half ago and have put a few thousand miles since then, quite a bit on washboard dirt roads. No rattles so far, and after doing the job there do not seem to be too many areas where rattles could occur, assuming the bolts are tightened. Fortunately the bolts are fairly easy to check, being easy to access. The dash really is a modular unit that appears to be fully assembled outside the vehicle.

Thanks for this.

You confirmed what I mostly have read on this forum...many folks have had this a/c box repair and none really complain about rattles afterwards.

I have some aftermarket wiring that I will have to check out and repair/reposition as needed (light bar switch, trailer brake controller, auto stop start eliminator).

You did the work yourself? If so how long did it take?

I get this too in mine when I park and turn off the engine. Sounds like some sort of clicking going back and forth. After a few seconds it stops.

My late 2020 (December I think?) build heater box clicks like my ankles when it is a cold morning. Probably similar issue to yours, but has been going on for more than a year. Stops after a couple of minutes.

Mine has been doing it for 6 months. My understanding is it will keep getting worse until the blend doors can no longer move. My clicking has gotten louder over the months, but the systems can still adjust the air temp fine.

If I didn't have the extended warranty, I'd just live with the noisey actuators hoping the box never warped enough to cause failure. Since I have the warranty, makes more sense to fix it.

I suspect our builds (mine is Dec 2020 also) probably have a slightly better heater box than the ones from before July 2020 that were almost all guaranteed to fail. It seems like the heater box is still not perfect in my truck. There have been a few others here that had their heater box replaced on builds after July 2020, though less common than before that date

One thing that does sort of comfort me is of the many here on this forum who has the heater box replaced under SSM 49264, no one has really complained about extra rattling or damage. One or two folks had some dash scratching from the removal. I believe one of them was able to get the dealer to replace the scratched panel. I will look over things well when I pick my truck up. Any visible damage and I will be demanding replacement paneling. My truck, while used like a truck, is miraculously taken care of

At this point I am outside of the 3 yr warranty and don't have any extended plan so I will have to tackle this myself if it ever does fail catastrophically. I am glad they are taking care of it for you though!

They had to pull my dash with <350 miles to fix my AC fan and find a leak in the windshield.

I am now ~21k miles in and the dash is starting to rattle behind the gauge cluster . . .

I love this truck, but every time something else goes wonky I consider trading it in for a prius.

LOL
