We have a gas furnace... I am sure running a gas line to the garage wouldn't be to challenging... For someone knowledgeable with gas...

If I go this route, I will have them run a line to our back deck so I can run my grill (when I buy a new one) forever. ?
Here's a pic of mine. Heater has no internal fan, so I have a small electric on the shelf that blows the heated air across the garage.
Ignore the stuff around it...it all gets moved when I use the heater...not cold enough yet.

I have a heater like yours (except I put the legs on mine so I can move it out of the way in the warm months). I added the OEM internal fan and after using it for a short time after installing it, I decided to NEVER plug it in again. For some reason the air flow seems to cause the propane to not burn as clean (the tips of the flame turn orange instead of the bright blue) and after a short time the odor becomes quite obnoxious. If I leave the fan off, there is no smell.

The heater does an incredible job of warming up the garage in the winter months. Last winter we had a couple of days of -20° with -46° wind chill. It had no problem maintaining 65° inside.

The fan above the unit just circulates the hot air....on low it does a great job...it will raise the temp from 30 to 55 on 20 degree outside temp....30 minutes will give me 60 degrees and t-shirt temp comfort.

Went to vote in our city elections and was behind this Ranger. I rarely see Rangers in Portsmouth, so it's always me turning into a spaz when I do. =D

I use a remote fan as well to stir the air. It helps a lot.

@Grumpaw and @NeilP did you insulate the garage (or did it come insulated)?

I'm thinking of having spray foam guys come and do the part of the garage not against the living space, this no insulation and fire barrier requirement... Gotta love track home builds...

Mine is attached garage. Insulation in ceiling, one wall is an outside wall with just batting and garage door has insulated panels.

I have a ceiling mount but it works only when it wants to. I have thrown parts at it to no avail. Time for an HVAC repair person.

My place is custom built. The garage is a three stall with 850 sq. ft. & is attached to the house. A few years ago I replaced the garage doors with the highest insulation rating I could buy. One and a half walls are an outside wall and one is all garage doors. The outside walls have 6" studs filled with fiberglass insulation and the ceiling has about 16" of blown in insulation.

I only run that heater intermittently during the day and never at night. I go through a 40# propane bottle and part of a 30# bottle each year. When I check the temp in the mornings after a super cold night, the temp in the garage has never dropped below 40°. Whoever built this place did it right. It has 3300 sq. ft of living area. Our natural gas bill (heat & hot water) in the winter averages $100-$125 and $20-$25 a month in the summer
