Scary...everytime I hit "what's new" button, at least two threads involving transmission is active...

That's not a bad idea. I've been trying to get a good snapshot in forscan as well, but haven't found the right PIDs to log yet.

Took my 2022 in for a complaint of harsh 3-4 shift in the morning and after a few days of diagnosis, I received an update.

Valve body needs replaced, the unit needs flushed to clean any metal shavings or debris, and the unit may need to be dropped/replaced if after they swap the valve body and it still acts up on the test drive, Ford will instruct them to replace the whole transmission.

Sound a little overkill for a minor “slip and bang” complaint?

Aside from the harsh shifts and occasionally squealing when going into R, it has been working fine otherwise.

I was thinking they’d just do the reprogram and send me on my way, not do major repairs to the truck.
Same here I just had to replace the whole transmission since it was going to cost more to repair it. A week later I was having another issue with the truck it wasn’t shifting properly. So I took it back to ford to find out it was supposedly the engine motor mount. I doubt it was that because it’s still rough on the down shifting. I’ve already re-built the rear differential as well it’s always something with these trucks

You too?! And you're still having shifting issues with a new trans?!

Unfortunately I am it’s still kinda ruff on the downshifting which would be sixth and fifth gear. For the most part the upshifting is perfect. They try to tell me it was a bad motor mount that’s why I feel the jerking. After I got the motor mount replaced I still was having that issue.

Just a theory, have you checked the middle support for the 2 piece driveshaft? It's possible that movement there is responsible for the jerking.

It's possible that is contributing, yes. The support in the center holds the driveshaft through a rubbery bushing thing which can wear out and cause the shaft to move around more. Take a read through some of the 1 piece driveshaft replacement threads to see what I'm talking about. Post #18 by TJC in this thread mentions a similar problem to yours and was solved by the 1 piece driveshaft.

It's certainly not a cheap part though and I have yet to spend the $$ for one on mine. I need to either commit to fixing the truck or not put any more $ into it and trade it.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. EVERY TIME I press the ignition start button, yes I’ve got one of those!, on my 2022 LARIAT/TREMOR with just over 5k mi now, I hold my breath.

I come to Ford / Ford Ranger from another brand that had problems from day one that required a lawyer and finally a full “buy back”.

My Ranger is my first ever Ford, and though I’ve not had a problem (well, Ford not knowing how to install a windshield - recall - something I’m terrified to address, but that’s another story), I do only have 5,000mi on it. I have to say I actually avoid this forum at times as it is filled with so many issues and what you can not deny are major mechanical problems owners have.

My confidence is not overwhelmingly high in the longevity of my truck.

I’m going to have to invest in getting one for sure, I guess I’m not the only one that’s dealing with the same problem. That link was much help I appreciate it. Those tom wood drivesahft look really durable.

If mine had an accessible dipstick , id fill it with ball bearings and metal shavings and then take it back to the dealer...unless that actually fixed it ... Sport mode makes mine drivable though, so im good for now...

Ya...What a bunch of whiners...
Its not whining...its people who want their voices heard, and that's fair. I respect that this transmission has blemishes and some people sadly can't avoid it.
But there's a fine line where problems can be discussed and solutions found...or fear mongering is created, perpetuated and what not.
Looking at some of the posts in the many threads, you can't deny the latter is happening to some degree.
10 guys can climb on a pulpit and pound their chests saying the trans is garbage. 100 can do the same and say it's great, but then 100 with hints of problems with nothing confirmed then join the 10 guys because they're louder and more active in their posts drowning out the 100 with zero problems. Its like a pyramid scheme on a merry go round. The collective posts don't reflect the actual problem accurately anymore, its the vocal minority that stands out.
Its a good way to get Ford to make a change, bad publicity is never good.
