So in general we all knew with a first model year vehicle (US at least) the ranger could have some quirks and issues that get ironed out over time with TSB's and or recalls. We took the risk and don't regret it one bit - I love this truck!

Parts availability is another issue and I know it will simply take time for things to catch up. That said I have a tear in one of my front CV boots that is leaking grease. The tear is my fault. Local dealers parts counter says there is no stock available and no time frame for a new boot being available as ford is "looking for a new supplier!" WTF

If this tear had been caused by road debris would ford really be saying sorry but you cannot have this part???? Clearly they have them on the assembly line for new trucks??? It sounds like I may be waiting a long time at this point.

Short of some half ass band-aids I may have a new truck that I cant really drive. Due to a family emergency I was forced to just run it for a good 600 miles of interstate driving and other than leaking grease no issues or noises yet. The ride and steering is smooth without any vibration or noise.

I'm mostly just venting here as I try to guess how long some silicone gasket material and self fusing silicone tape will last but right now that is the best idea I can think of.

Anyone here ever "repair" a torn CV boot with success?

Thank you in advance for any input.

Hi,

If you can clean it real well with acetone around the tear, you might try Locktite super glue and use an accelerator to instantly set it...won't last for ever... The CV is likely used on other vehicles, and you may stumble on this at say a Fiat or maybe VW etc Wish I could help you...System fill for the Ranger is certainly slow for some reason.... Good luck!

Thank you Phil!

I’m having difficulties locating this boot in the online parts catalog. Does anyone have a part number or specs for the boot?

Hoping I could find another way to get a boot of the same size.

Thanks

You can get universal boots as well as split boots. They aren’t a long term solution but still may be better than a torn one!

Agree, get something like this that appears to have halfway correct dimensions. Keep it out of the dust and water, and you can roll for a long time.

Thank you fellas! I'm going to attempt to measure what I can on the existing boot and try to find the closest sized split boot and go from there. If only the actual part and specs were shown in fords data base it would really make this easier since they cannot supply the part.

This will all work out eventually, just frustrated and needed to vent. Worst case scenario I end up going thru a few split boots until I can find the right size.

Appreciate the direction form all of you

My truck is now in the body shop and the guy I gave it to said there aren't any parts available and it will take awhile. He told me he had a Ranger in there recently for a rear bumper and he couldn't get one. He said they had to take one off a new truck, off the lot.

Thank you Phil! I imagine you are a busy man and genuinely appreciate the help good Sir!

I would love to be able to get the part number and or size of the boot tied down so a universal or split boot could be ordered until ford has parts available. I have not been able to find the individual CV boot as a part and it appears the entire axle and CV joint assembly is not available on the ford parts site either.

Has anyone else torn a CV boot on the 2019 ranger????

I'm currently in that predicament. My passenger inner CV boot had to be torn to fix popped joint, and I can't find a boot anywhere. My dealer said I'd have to buy that whole half assembly because ford doesn't supply just boots yet. He mentioned a part number KBBZ3B436A but said nothing pops up yet for it.

Jake - I hate to hear you are in the same predicament I am! Passenger side is torn. I've spent the last hour scouring parts sites and even checked the number you posted with no luck. I did find what appears to be the entire shaft and CV assembly for the front passenger side and decided to bite the bullet and see if this is actually available. Link is below if you want to check it out.

Driver side is shown as on back order.

I received order confirmation but nothing to confirm its actually available to ship. I hate to buy the entire shaft but at this point im running out of options other than trying to band-aid the boot or order random universal / split boots and hope one fits. That grease is coming out in a hurry and I drive at least 70 miles a day for work.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Do you still have the torn boot? Mine got a bit ruined and can't be measured. If so, any idea what the joint side and shaft side are for measurements? I may try a few universal boots in hopes of not spending $260 quite yet.
