Funny the armies in the middle east use Toyota pickups to move soldiers. They mount a 50 caliber machine gun on them and off they go.

"the service to spend $36.22 million on procuring 143 ISVs"

do the math on that.
I'm starting to remember something about toilet seats.
Honestly, for a completely custom, one of a kind vehicle that does not seem out of reason to me. They are essentially hand crafted vehicles - you aren't going to tool up an assembly line for 143 vehicles. And there is probably VERY little that can be reused from a "regular" vehicle.

Turn them over to some old truck like us we'll figure it out. Might not be pretty but it will work by golly

Basic requirements, which don't come cheap. Plus all the other mission specific and survivability requirements (fuel tank, for example) that don't come cheap. The helo and airdrop requirements are expensive add-ons... it ain't just a fancy 4wd .

The Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) is a new, lightweight, all-terrain troop carrier designed to modernize Army Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs). It is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 architecture, deriving 90% of its parts from commercial-off-the-shelf components.

ISV’s basic operational capabilities include:

  • Nine-man squad carrying capability
  • Payload of 3,200 pounds
  • External sling load by a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter
  • Internal load/external lift by CH-47 Chinook helicopter
  • Low-velocity air drop by fixed-wing C-130 or C-17 transport aircraft
  • Exceptional mobility over all terrains

If you've ever seen the requirements for a military piece of hardware, they get VERY specific, and VERY particular, which ends up being VERY expensive.....

a rolling chassis and a fab shop with some pipe benders and they could replicate this for well under their ridiculous pricing. Its nothing special TBH. Look at it....like really look at it.

We cry over a 3K price increase on our rangers. This doesnt even offer you air conditioning and a leak proof interior.

Well, technically the air conditioning is there; just step harder on the gas....

Remembers the soft-sided trucks in Iraq that created havoc when people got hurt by bombs. I can just see the contractor waiting with a big ass grin for a call to add armor to that thing for more protection because the Army loves to spend money and can't see the advantage of having something light/relatively nimble unless you are some sort of special forces.
