Draw-tite / Rigid / Reese Hitches crappy shipping

If you want an aftermarket hitch I would suggest going some where other than Reese. I ordered a Rigid brand hitch from them recently which arrived pretty poorly "packaged" needing repainted in a number of locations. I complained to Reese and the best they could muster was a $25.00 credit. This is supposedly how they ship all their hitches because apparently they "don't fit in boxes". I guess they would rather deal with annoyed customers than buy a pallet of appropriate boxes from Uline.

Update: They ultimately provided a return shipping label for me after a bit of grousing. I'll be taking my chances some where else.

You're exactly correct, although it's not easier to deal with annoyed customers, it's more cost efficient for them and that's what everything boils down to these days.

I bought a Reese hitch for my Xterra back in 2020 and the packaging was great. Pretty sure it came in a box.

Once upon a time I was a service writer for a Reese dealer. I sold countless 5th wheel hitches, weight distribution setups, and Tekonsha brake controllers and thought very highly of them. I'm pretty sure we used to get stuff in boxes also.

That is messed up. Bubble wrap is not designed to hold up by itself. Do you have a pic of the paint damage?

Over the last 2 dozen years, I have bought many many hitches, hitch equipment, and accessories from ETrailer. They have free shipping, and most of the time the lowest prices....and the parts always come in a proper box.

Back in the day when I owned an accessory business this was the norm. We would receive hitches from various suppliers and they would always be simply in bubble wrap. I complained but was told it was the normal way of shipping such items. We never had a customer complain as they never looked under the truck and every time the damage was to the end brackets which would not normally be seen anyway.

Free shipping at etrailer.com on any order over $99. I ordered one for me Escape ans it bolted right up. Needed hitch for small trailer but mostly a bike rack and game carrier.

I bought one in 2020 an it came wrapped in heavy plastic, no box. A few minor scuffs on it, I just threw it on.

My DrawTite came in a box, but it's possible eTrailer put it in there and not the manufacturer. The hitch was wrapped in bubble wrap in the box.
