I bought a used 21 Ranger XLT with 10,000 mile on it. I had it for 5 days. The problem. Came home, turned the truck off, came back to go and there was no electrical power for anything. Checked the battery and it held 12.58 volts. While on the phone, the headlights turned on and went out, so i got into the truck and it started up and ran till today. The previous owner came back from deployment after two weeks and found the battery dead, the dealership replaced an $830 module and everything was fine till now. Anyone else have this problem?

There were some who have had this issue. A few were a loose connector behind the left headlight right at the frame that the radiator attaches to.

Also some have just had some weird electrical gremlins and once its happened it never happened again. I would start by checking that connection first and also the battery connections.

I had a similiar thing a couple months ago. My wife drove separately and took me home. Got my jumper cables that I been putting off for too long. I got back tried the key fob for some reason and my truck unlocked and started up no issue. Didn’t even need the jump. Didn’t lose any radio stations and my clock was still set. Weird. We assumed it was some kind of security glitch with that securilock or someone was up to no good. Haven’t had any issue since.

From what I have seen the Ranger (HATES) having either a dead battery or being disconnected for a long period of time.
I have seen some posts where truck would not start, wait 15 minutes or so and magically starts with (Zero) issues (this confuses me and makes no sense)

There are too many modules that have to communicate with each other just to start the truck, if just (1) module does not see (I have a start request) , its not going to start.

So, the headlight flash, was the truck reacting to door opening and most likely you should have heard the Fuel Pump Prime (Whine) as well, (So it's possible the truck did not trigger the fuel pump prime at first attempt and then after delayed reaction (Triggered) and allowed the truck to start

I would try other FOB or replace battery in the FOB you were using (cheap possible-fix), I am guessing here, but it appears the problem is a communication issue, between the (FOB and the truck) or (truck module to truck module) with a high probability relating to the (PATS) system aka Anti-Theft

Makes one wonder if that was why it was traded. Wonder if Car Fax will show anything. I'd brush up on your states Lemon Law if it applies to used vehicles purchased from a dealer.
