Today while sitting stationary after driving for about ten minutes my truck lost all electrical power. It was like I disconnected the battery, no power whatsoever. I got out and checked the battery and everything looked fine. Suddenly the running lights turned on again. I got back in and turned the key and instantly lost all power again. Sat there for about 5 minutes and it suddenly came back and has been fine since. I have no idea what is going on. 2019 with 12000 miles on it.

Intermittent electrical problems can be tough to track down. I took a quick look at the power distribution schematic for the Ranger. If what you are saying is that there is no crank, no lights, no ignition, etc.. Then a good place to start would be to inspect the battery, and battery connections. Both power and grounds. (Especially the grounds!) Check the cables for tightness and/or corrosion.. Also load test the battery for good measure while you're there.

If by some miracle you could catch it while this power loss is actually occurring this would make it a whole lot simpler to track down where the loss is at. A few quick checks with a test light at various spots would show you right away where the issue is.

Best of luck or best of luck with the dealer if that is the route you end up going.

So I parked it at the store and everything was working. Came back out unlocked it with the keyfob and put the key in. Everything turned on until I turned the key to start it and no power again. Waiting a few minutes and it started up but gave me random warnings about hill park assist being unavailable.

HI Jordan,

The dealer should check the battery for proper charge and perform a load test. It sounds like something is not tight, positive terminal to the battery or negative post and also the ground to the frame and chassis. If battery is okay, then something is not tight for some reason.

Good luck! Confidence in your Ranger is now compromised...Sadly...

Thanks for the posts. I will take it to the dealership on Monday. I checked for obviously loose wires on the battery and everything was snug. It started right up and didn't give me an issue.

I was finally able to take a look at the truck in the garage with proper tools. Both of the bolts on the positive side of the battery were barely finger tight once I got a socket onto it. I was able to rotate one a full rotation before it was tight and several rotations on the other. Took it out for a spin around the neighborhood and had no issues. I have no idea how they came loose but I am confident that was the issue.
