Anyone know of a proper fitting lug that closely matches the sport rim's charcoal/dark gray/gunmetal look?

...not black

Thanks!
Mag gray is a nice color but hard to find aftermarket items for. You could Plastidip them in anthracite or even gun metal. Would have been nice if Ford would have installed matching lugnuts.

Hi Tim,

One of the Assembly plant issues is complexity. Complexity promotes errors. Can you imagine if the Assembly operator had to have 5 or six bins behind him/her to install the correct lug nuts by color... Doable...sure. Plant feasible...NFW...

best,
Phil

I totally get it. My truck is rampant with factory issues. I understand the production aspect of it.

There are options at the production line instead of "so what, just use same silver lug nuts" or "oh hey look a dark wheel, somebody dig in a bin an find me some matching ones". They could have a package attached with each non steel colored wheel to closely match instead of just using the same lug nut on every truck. There are ways to make these happen that does not take away from Ford pushing out trucks. Ford has skimped out on a lot of things and you yourself know that having worked there.

Hi Tim,

You proposal to resolve your wish shows you inexperience with Final Line at a assembly. Having a package attached to a wheel requires another operation remove lugnuts from a bag which is added time and the operation slows the line down or the plant has to add an operator or rebalance the line.....final lines are fixed length and space and time are an issue.

So I recommend you do not tell me I know for myself having worked at Ford. If this was an idea to be implemented, because of affect on Final Line length, the new model facilitation would have to account for this feature. As it is, the operator works as the vehicle drops down and the tires are installed and lugnuts placed on the studs and a nut runner runs down the lug nuts with a sophisticated runner to ensure proper torque...the the vehicle drops on to the final line on its wheels. I sense you just do not get it.

The other aspect is Marketing...is doing colored lug nuts worth the few or many that what this feature.

Phil

You obviously did not understand what Phil said. Complexity, read options, causes mistakes. You'd end up with 1 chrome, 2 grey and 3 black on one wheel. And they would all be the crappy two piece nuts.

If you work the wheel station and make $60-100k/yr and cannot match a silver lug to a silver rim and a black lug to a black rim and so forth....Ford isn't hiring the right people. Good lord.

Just my .02c.........

I applaud you for all your engineering work. But line operations can be done better. Other companies do have such accommodations. Ford has skimped out on so many things and most aren't noticed until after the purchase.

My truck should not have got off the line with it's errors. But then that would have slowed down production and we can't slow down the line. But UAW also makes sure line workers get their liquid lunch breaks and are very hard to fire.

Are you saying people haven't have issues? Different colored door handles? Paint issues? Body alignment issues? Missing items that are still being added? Items not plugged in or attached that are supposed to be? So you thing the current production line is perfect?

I never said it was! But adding another complexity, just adds another point of failure. Besides you really need crappy lugnuts that your going to replace anyway to be color matching?

By the way. Settle down and have another liquid lunch break.

Maybe go back and read my post that offered an owner solution before someone took it personal against Ford.
