That's how it worked in the very early days of 'pick up' trucks. You would buy a cab and chassis from one of the major manufactures, then a 3rd party would sell you the box bed to install on the chassis.
Yep, but that’s because they were initially thought up as flatbeds for farm work and cargo hauling. I would venture to guess that 80% of the trucks on the road today have never seen lumber, scrap, dirt, gravel, etc in their beds. A truck is an accessory to one’s wardrobe in many places now, and with their cost, they are starting to be a status symbol. Sad. Either use it for work, use it for adventure or go get a Camry. Stop driving up the price of trucks people!!! ??

Bad enough that the most American made vehicles are the Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner these days.
not sure about last couple years of rangers but 2019, besides having all the deleted stuff, were #1 american made vehicle beating out all those crap japanese cars

By number 1, you mean best? If you mean best seller, then no where near it. When I said american made, it’s because most domestic vehicles are made in Mexico, Canada or other countries and assembled in the states (if even that). Toyota sources more parts in the USA and build those 3 platforms in San Antonio, TX. Some 4Runners are built there and others in Japan. All Tundras are build there and Tacomas were, but I think some moved to Mexico in the last year or two. As for crap, I’m a Ford guy and always have been. But, credit where credit is due, Toyotas just work…. They just aren’t the most powerful, comfortable, coolest or most modern (ever). Not going lie, I had 3 90s model Rangers and still considered getting a Gen 3 Tacoma until I sat in one. I’m 6’2” and just couldn’t live with that seat every day now matter what mods I did to it.

I was wrong. Turns out, my wife’s Honda Pilot is 75% made in uS/Canada and my Ranger is only 55% made in US/Canada. Of course this is just one source but many are claiming Honda to be the most American made (by percentage of parts/economic feed). Allegedly, Jeep cherokees are toward the top of the list, so why is Chrysler the only automaker that has ever left me stranded (several times in multiple vehicles). Interesting info. Maybe one of the Ford reps on the forum can chime in?

There is already enough getting out and swapping/mucking about that has to be done when off roaring. I would rather the convenience of both permanently in place. Beside, what if I get stuck in the mud while toting a Uhaul to Wally World?:crackup:
In that case, wouldn't you use the front tow hooks?

Late for formation but welcome to the group! Lots of good people and great info, but SOP is to get a Damper ASAP! Nice Truck!
You talking about a Deezee tailgate damper? If so, I’ve had it in the Amazon cart for a week now. I have to wait until Wifey makes a purchase to “accidentally” order it for me ??. I know, husband of the year, please be hold your applause for opening remarks.

Just remember to hit that PT hard after you get it, or your arms will get too weak to hold up that .50 cal.

Not only am I an old-school Soldier, I’m a redneck too. Where there is a will, there’s a way, send it!

I’m this generations old-school. Might be a different kind from your day, but I came up pretty hard by comparison to the new-agers. Could have to do with 5x Afghanistan and a year in Iraq, or just an overal generational shift who knows. As for the photo of you, are you my Daddy? ??

I can relate a little, 2 tours in Nam, 4th ID, missed Reforger but was lucky to do 2 tours in Germany. As for your last question?... could be, spent a couple years at Benning and MRC Dahlonega, and I did make the rounds :)
