Anyone remember the Royal Castles and White Castles where they had 12 cent hamburgers. They were all over.
How about Lum's with their cooked in beer hot dogs ?
The original KFC's....my grandfather opened the first one in South Florida in Hollywood at the corner of US 441 and Hollywood Blvd in 1958. We moved from New Orleans in 1959 so my dad could help him with it. I grew up on KFC....remember every order was basically made to order. You got 3 pieces of chicken, mashed taters n gravy, cole slaw, and a biscuit for $1.29. Met the Col....he would come around un-announced to check up on each outlet and if he didn't like what he saw, would close you down till you got it right.
Howard Johnsons with their 29 flavors of ice cream and all you can eat fish and clam Wednesdays for .99 cents.
Original Burger King opened in Miami on NW 36 st and 32nd ave with .39 cent Woppers and fish sandwiches, .15 cent hot dogs and .25 cent shakes.
